05-2-03 - Hello everyone. 

It's a beautiful spring morning and I've decided to make a visit to my web page to make a short update.

My weight loss is still great...I'm still at 164 lbs which is a total loss of 172 since my all time high weight of 336 in March of 1997.  I have actually lost 143 lbs since my surgery date of 11/18/99.

The past several months have been very trying for me.  As I have reported in past pages, I have struggled with an ulcer which developed at the site of my gb anastamosis.  Well, in October of 2002, Dr. Haluck surgically removed the ulcer and a did a bowel resection to correct a portion of my bowel that had become blocked.  The recovery has been long and hard.  I'm still not back to work full time and experiencing great pain.  To control the pain, I take heavy duty narcotics.  I see the pain management team at HMC monthly, for assistance in coping with the pain, and I am also seeing a counselor to deal with the depression that frequently onsets a person with chronic pain.

I'm so happy with the outcome of my gb surgery, but I have been tremendously effected by these other difficulties.  Everyone is very quick to try to point the finger at all my problems and say it's because I had the gb surgery.  I however, would do it again in a heartbeat.  Afterall, a person can live with pain from an ulcer but they can't live DEAD from all the problems that Morbid Obesity brought on.
