There have been a few updates to the website. First, the server rules have been updated to match the ones
on the forums. We will be alternating games between LOS and Non-LOS. To find out which rule is in effect
for the current game, please check the "Server Rules" thread on the forums. Next, we've added a sub-menu to the
left frame over yonder. The single menu was beginning to look a little cluttered and was getting longer
than we like it to be. Hence the new sub-menu was added. Let us know what you think of it.

The download page has been updated and a majority of the downloads are once again available. I also got the
taunt sounds uploaded after noticing that there were some 404 hits on the taunts listed on the download
page. If you tried recently to listen to some of the taunts, my apologies for not realizing those were not
available. It's fixed now, so go and have a listen.

We'd like to thank the fine folks over at Battleclinic.com for hosting the download for us.
The new game, beginning March 13, 2005, will be using this download. I've also got more beauty
shots up on the wallpaper page. I've learned a lot working on this one and some enjoyment as
well. Hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did creating it.

Our forums host has been experiencing difficulties on the server where our forums reside. You may
experiencing numerous "Too Many Connections" errors. Our hosts worked on the server last week and
thought the problem was resolved. It appears to have returned. They are considering moveing us to
a new server. We'll keep you updated.

Congratulations to the Borg for winning the first game on the 534b patch. It ended sooner than we expected.
I think the new missions were well received and enjoyed by everyone. We have started a new game using the
stock "Multi" map. Have fun and happy hunting.

Congratulations to the Romulans for winning the first and last game on the 534a patch. We are moving along
to the 534b patch plus Alternate B upgrade with the next game. I finished off a new map for this one
called "Federation Tear". If you get on at the beginning of the game, I think you'll understand the name.
The "update" adds in a few new missions and battleships for the Federation and Klingon races. Details are on
the forums. Have fun and happy hunting.
Peace, all. ~ ~ Garreth

At the suggestion of one of our forum members, I revised the download page to consist of only those
patches that are needed to join the Alternate B game server. At this point in time, the only patch required
is the 534_a patch. Real life events have prevented Eudoxia and I from spending much time testing or
reviewing the 534_b patch. Once testing and reviewing is finished, we will post a schedule for the move
to the 534_b patch.
Peace, all. ~ ~ Garreth

Alternate B has moved to the v534 patch. There are a few fixes that made sense to Eudoxia and I so we
made the move. Details can be viewed on the forums.

We have made it to six months on line. That's right, we have been around for six months. Hard to
believe it's been six months already. We've got a few things going on...things we are testing...things
we might like to try. We'll keep you posted and ask for input when it is appropriate.

I finally got the weapons chart in a page and uploaded. It's located at the bottom of the FAQ page.
If you would like a copy of this in excel format, please send me an email and I will send it to you.
I also updated the allseeing string, updating a few typos and adding in the arming time. This string
replaces the original string file in you assets/strings folder and show you the damage, drawing power
and arming time of each weapon in the refit screen. it also shows the warp core power output. You may
download the file by click here.

Last, One of our players wrote a post about honor and etiquette. Eudoxia and I liked it so much that
it now has it's own page. Click on the "Warrior's Creed" link in the menu to view.

I received a suggestion from one of the clans that play on Alternate B to add links to the clan web-sites on
our links page. I think it's a good suggestion and have begun to add links. If you've got a clan and would
like to have a link to your web-site on our links page, send me an email letting me know.

Okay, we are ready to start fresh...so to speak. The current game will end at 3 PM Central Time. A winner
of the game will be declared at that time. There will be a break of approximately 30 minutes while we switch
the server over from the pre-patch files to the patched files.

The 531 build is going to change the dynamics of our game slightly.
1) Planet assaults - In order to flip a planet, you must run planet assaults until the hex shifts to neutral.
After the hex shifts to neutral, the next planet assault or battle will flip the planet.

2) New missions - There are new missions in the game including Casino and Surprise Reversed.
a) Casino is just that. you get 500p to start with and can gamble it away on 4 different games; roulette,
poker, bacarrat, and blackjack.
b) Surprise Reversed - There are six enemy ships at the beginning. They are not yet powered up but once they
detect you they start powering up. You mission is to destroy all of them. The more you destroy before they
power up all the way, the less there will be taking shots at you.
c) There are other missions that we have not yet played.

3) Fleet limitations - Fleets are limited as follows;
1 BB maximum, 2 DN's maximum, 2 BCH's maximum, 3 CA's maximum, 3 DD's maximum, and 3 FF's maximum.
Total number of ships in a fleet is a maximum of 3. Fleet examples:
a) 1 BB and 2 DN's
b) 2 DN's and 1 CA
c) 1 DN and 2 CA's
d) etc. you get the idea

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
If you still wish to be able to play on the pre-patch servers, install the game in a new directory, such as
"SFC3 Patched" or something like that. The installation instructions are as follows:

1. Uninstall versions of SFC 3 off your system using Add / Remove Programs. Do NOT do this step if you wish
to be able to play on the pre-patch servers.

2. Delete the SFC 3 game folder off your system. Do NOT do this step if you wish to be able to play on the
pre-patch servers.

3. Reinstall SFC 3 from game disk.

a) Do not install Direct X 8.1 or Gamespy Arcade. Very important.
b) make sure your Direct X version is Direct x 9.0b. Reinstalling Direct X 9.0b is recommended. Also very
important.

4. Install SFC 3 Patch 1.01 Beta 2 Build 500 (the original patch]. Items a, b, and c are, again, very
important.

a) Do not install SFC 3 Direct X 9 Fix. It will cause game to corrupt.
b) Do not install Borg Mini Campaign. It will cause game corruption.
c) Do not install Nemisis Add On Pack. It will cause game corruption.

5. If you are using Windows XP, right click the SFC 3 desktop shortcut, left click on properties, left click
on the compatibility tab. Click "Disable Visual Themes" then click OK.

6. Make sure your drivers are up to date from the manufacturer of your video card.
Do not use drivers released by Microsoft.

7. Use the SFC3_Patch_1.01_Beta_2_Build_v531_Full.exe

Links to the 500 and 531 patches are located in this thread on the Taldren Forums -

- Updated the campaign history page with results from the last game
- Added a link to the complete Klingon Crunch story on the campaign history page
- Modified a link on the downloads page
- Added a listing of all taunts along with the sound file to the downloads page
(Thought you might want to hear them before you download them)

Okay, got a strange one for you this time. Well...maybe not so strange. You tell me, lol. I saw these
ship charts of various Star Trek ships one day when I was surfing and thought it might be kewl to have
charts of the ships in SFC3. So, I took a little time and made some.(I am NOT going to say how much.
Eudoxia would be sooo upset with me if she knew how much time I really spent on these). Those of you
who are real observant may notice some slight discrepancies with some of the images. Oh, and if anyone
has corrections to the lengths, let me know. A few of them a best-estimates based on running a lot of
single-player skirmishes and taking screenshots to compare unknown lengths to known lengths.

Almost forgot to mention...I've added a couple of new downloads to the downloads page, 2 files for
changing your standard shields and one for changing your tractor.
Peace, all. ~ ~ Garreth

Whoa! Am I on the right website? Answer...Yes. I've been working on this design for several weeks
now and finally finished it up. What better time to roll it out than on the 3 month anniversary of
Alternate B. It's best to view the site at a screen resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels. I've also added
a links page. Let me know if there are any links that you think should be added and Eudoxia and I
will consider them. Oh...and the taunts pack is back!!! Go to the downloads page to get it now.
Peace, all. ~~ Garreth

New game started

The "Breach" is continuing. Is this one going to set a record for the longest campaign?
It will if it lasts a few more days.

The story line for the "Breach" is not even begun yet, although it is floating around and percolating
in my brain. It talks to me every now and then. Soon it will be on paper.

I have taken the "Klingon Crunch" story line and made one webpage out of it. I added a few things...
images and sound. The sound file is a bit big so if you are on dial-up ou might want to grab a snack
while it loads. You can see the complete story line here.

~ ~ ~ February 14, 2004 ~ ~ ~
The "Klingon Crunch" campaign has ended. My hats off to the Klingons, who persevered through it all.
I know that some of you felt the map was unfair at the start. It was not intended to be unfair. And
I do try to keep the race economies close to each other. I will be listing the starting race
economies in the map makers log from now on.

As far as the campaign storyline goes, it will be completed. I promise. I just outlined too many parts
and don't have anymore of them done. It's going to either finish with part 4 or 5, depending on how
many parts I drop.

Speaking of storylines, contrary to popular belief (can I call it that?) the stories are actually
written after the map is finished. Honest! Once the map is finished, I sit back in my "captain's
chair" with my trusty cup of java, close my eyes, and let my imagination go. I don't know where it
comes from and never know where it is going to take me. I don't consider myself to be good at writing
them and am truly honored by the comments that several of you have made.

"Borg Breach" has now begun, and I in my infinite idiocy began a storyline for this one, even after
I said there probably wouldn't be one. DOH! Time to grab some more java.

For those of you who are interested, I created a couple of "Altenate B" wallpapers. There is a link to
their location on the screenshots board at the forums. Don't even ask why I did them. I'm clueless.

~ ~ ~ February 6, 2004 ~ ~ ~
"Klingon Crunch" continues. Part Two of the storyline leading up to the campaign has been posted on
the forums. Watch out for those Reman Scimitars.

~ ~ ~ February 1, 2004 ~ ~ ~
"Klingon Crunch" has begun. Part One of the storyline leading up to the campaign has been posted on
the forums. The Romulans now have the Reman Scimitar. Get the add-on file from the downloads page.

~ ~ ~ January 24, 2004 ~ ~ ~
We are manually rebooting the server every eight hours to keep it fresh for the U.K. and North
American players. The reboot times are approximately 12:00 Midnight, 8:00 AM, and 4:00 PM
Eastern time. We are working towards automating this process.

The Romulan Scimitar is coming. We asked you to speak and you did. 85% of the votes were in favor
of adding the Scimitar. The Scimitar is an add-on ship available on the downloads page. Read the
description as it is important you understand what this add-on does It is anticipated that we will
launch the Scimitar with the next map, "Klingon Crunch". This one should be a doozie.
KHB, are you up to the challenge?

~ ~ ~ January 18, 2004 ~ ~ ~
Added a campaign history page and a map makers log page to the website.

~ ~ ~ January 9, 2004 ~ ~ ~
We have been asked by a few players about the Romulan Scimitar and whether we are going to
add it to our server. Ok, so here's the thing, we can add it but you have to have the add-on to buy
it or fight against it. So, instead of us making the decision, what do you players want? Take the new
poll and vote either yes for having the scimitar or no for not having it. In order for the Scimitar
to be added, a total of at least 20 players must vote and the majority must vote yes.

By special request, an extra "taunts" pack has been added to our web-site. It can be found on the new
downloads page.

***Server Information***
Alternate B is running a standard 1.0 Dynaverse 3 server configuration (i.e. no mods).
No mod also includes the ships. No tweaking to the ships what-so-ever. Stock, Stock, Stock, lol

Alternate B's first campaign started on December 23, 2003. Our intent is for this
server to have the look and feel of Activision's "B" with some very slight server
side modifications as listed below. Oh, and to keep it running more than "B".

The server has had the following tweaks made to the server profiles:
* Campaign map is the same map used on Activision Server A
(Yes, there is a server A...it is just usually MIA)
* Starting pp set at 4000
* Time till ship bids end - 0 (This means you get your ship right away)
* Hex to Hex movement speed is faster
* Increased occurrence of scan and distress call missions
