At the border
After a 5 hour ride from Bangkok, we stopped at the border (Aranya Phrathet on the Thai side, crossing to Poipet). Here we had lunch and those who needed visas completed the paperwork |

Crossing Over
This is where we walked across to Cambodia |
|
|
|
Along the way
We made several stops at places like this in the 9.5 hours from Poipet to Siem Reap. The jugs contain petrol, the red thing is a cooler with drinks for humans |

Guest House
After a total of 16.5 hours, we got here. Contrary to popular horror stories, this is a great place! US$3 single/$5 double for a room with fan and private toilet/shower, and the staff is great |

Entering the Angkor Wat at Sunrise
The guest house staff dutifully woke me at 5AM, and my moto driver got me here for the view. The motorcycle with driver/guide cost US$6 for the day--sunrise to sunset |

More roots
When rediscovered in the 19th century, Angkor was completely overgrown. The roots were such a part of the structures that many had to remain, or the entire place would collapse |
