United Way & The Toy Project

The Lee's Summit Woodworkers Guild,  in combination with the Kansas City Woodworkers guild, supply thousands  of wooden toys to the United Way and various other agencies each year.  These toys are distributed through out the Kansas City metro area.  The agencies then distribute them at Christmas time to children that otherwise may have no Christmas.

The wood toys are made by individuals from the two woodworking guilds that unselfishly give of their time.  Sometimes, hundreds of hours per year.  In 1999 alone, the two guilds made and distributed 15,030 toys.  These toys were distributed to the United Way and other various agencies.  The success of this project greatly depends on the donations of lumber and cash by various local organizations and individuals.  The donations of lumber are essential to make the toys.  The cash donations are essential to buy wheels, axles, and cover other miscellaneous costs of producing the toys.

We also depend on donations of tools, accessories, and any other equipment that can be raffled during our monthly meetings.  The money raised as a result of the raffles, is also used to cover the cost of making the toys.
