 The Chorale's Expectations of Singers

We are excited and privileged to have each and every singer in the Chorale.  As you know, it takes every person to offer a meaningful and successful choral product. As in any organization, it is important to share an understanding of what is expected of the membership.  Here are some guidelines which help to make this experience the most successful for everyone:

  • Support

Singers are expected to assist with fund raising by requesting donations from friends and from business contacts through our "Adopt a Merchant Program" and by selling five (5) tickets per each concert series

Sharing the tasks that keep the chorale healthy and productive demands the participation of all of us.  Singers are ask to respond to the request to help by signing up to work on a   committee or a task force, or to work individually on a project.  Its fun to be a contributing member of the chorale!

  • Dues and Fees

Membership Dues: $50 annually due and payable at the annual meeting of the membership held the last Sunday in April

Singers Fees: $25.00 per concert season fee and payable in April for winter concert season and in November for the spring concert

Special Student membership fee: $25.00 fee only.  Scholarships are available.

Special "Try Us Out" Opportunity You are welcome to try out a season's rehearsals and two concerts without paying dues or music costs.  We are confident you will want to continue to sing with us!

Scholarships:

Singing opportunities are open to all who wish to join the chorale.  This means that financial considerations do not have to determine whether or not you can enjoy the chorale experience.

There are enough Scholarships available to include all who have concerns. Receiving a scholarship means that the annual dues and musical fees will be waived for you---just ask one of the Board Members for more information.  We are committed to sharing the delight of singing with all who want to participate. Come join us!

  • Rehearsals

Be on time for all rehearsals and concerts. On time means being in place and ready to sign at start time.

Be as prepared as possible for each rehearsal.  It is ultimately your responsibility to learn the music.  The rehearsals are for working out problem areas and for learning how to blend with others in your section and in the chorale as a whole.

Do not wear perfume or cologne to rehearsals or concerts.  Some singers are allergic and their breathing and vocalism are impaired by exposure to the chemicals in personal chare products. Please be as fragrance-free as possible.

Be tolerant and supportive of the diverse musical talent and proficiency of your fellow chorale members. Diversity is what makes us a stronger, more unified ensemble.  It's what gives our musical ensemble the wonderful color we enjoy.

Hold your music so that you can watch the conductor at all times. We want to avoid a "sing-a-long" mentality.  We strive to present a musically aggressive ensemble sound and a stylistically correct performance.  It is the conductor's responsibility to draw out of the ensemble the music and phrasing he/she feels appropriate.  If individual musicians are not "actively involved" by watching the conductor, they may find they are no longer together" with the rest of the ensemble.  Singing in an ensemble is indeed a group endeavor, not a personal pastime.

Take care of the music you are assigned by marking it only in pencil.  Please return your music promptly when it is requested at the end of the concert series.

Bring light snacks or drinks to share during the three or four rehearsals breaktime to which you are assigned. Plates, napkins and cups are provided.

  • Concerts

In order to achieve a cohesive group look, performance attire for concerts is as follows:

Men: black tuxedo, white tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, black socks, black shoes

Women: long sleeved black top, long black skirt (or black floor length dress) black nylons, black shoes. Please minimize jewelry

Bring cookies or finger foods on a non-returnable plate (paper or plastic) to serve at either the reception held during intermission on Saturday or held after the Sunday afternoon concert.
