QUICK INFO

No, this is not my main profession; I do the M-F corporate thing. I'm a long-time supporter and follower of local music, and recently added photographer to my personal resume. Live music shows are mostly what I shoot. Proceeds go back into photographing local music- buying local artist CDs, attending shows, and web hosting fees.

FAQs

"How can I get a photo up on my web site?"

You can link directly to gallery images buy clicking the "share photo: links, forums, blogs" beneath the image.

Contact me if you can't use linked images and want a web-quality file.

"Do I have to buy a photo to post it on my (personal, band, MySpace) site?"

Yes, choose the Digital Download option, Low-Rez (p) for personal use.

"I can't right-click and save the picture, but can't I just grab a screenshot and use that?"

Well, yes, but it's illegal.
Kind of like the difference between your songs streaming over the internet for samples, but downloads are for sale.

"How do I just get a print mailed to me?"

All prints can be ordered online through smugmug.com. Simply click on "buy: this photo" above the picture, and follow the sale process. If the "buy: this photo" link is not visible, please contact me with the gallery and picture file name you wish to purchase.

"Can I get a high resolution file to use on my CD (posters, press kit, etc.)?"

Yes, you can purchase rights to use any photo for printing purposes.  After you add the image to your shopping cart, choose Digital Download, and a Professional Use Licence.

"What does it cost to purchase file rights?"

$6.50 for Personal Use and $20 through $50.00 for Commercial Use rights, depending on your intended usage and required resolution.

"What's all this 'File Rights' stuff?"

Photos, like songs, are copyrighted material. When purchasing individual prints from the online store, rights to reprint or use these images for other purposes are not included.

There are also different levels of rights, again similar to music. It's like the difference between buying a CD (personal use), paying to cover someone else's song on your own CD (professional use), and buying the song rights (ownership and the ability to resell rights and ownership).

"Can I buy framed photos?"

Not currently. Since frame styles vary greatly, it's best to order the print and have it mounted at a local frame shop. In the Philly area I recommend Fairmount Framing, 25th and Aspen, 215.232.3011.

"Hey, I've seen you at  Philly Rising taking pictures- why are there none of me posted? "

Probably because you play the piano. It's in a dark corner and at a bad angle: most shots don't turn out.

Or you were wearing a baseball cap. Eye shadows: bad.

Or you brought a full band and the lighting was dark.

Or you were unluckily performing while I was eating, or  enjoying some coffee and _____ (see the quiz on the left menu) to warm me up for the walk home.

But hey, if you see me there and you'd like me to take some photos for you, let me know in advance who you are and what time you are supposed to go on. I'll make a point to get some shots of you. Oh, and take off that baseball hat!

"Hey, I'm in a band and am just as good-looking as these guys. How do I get you to one of our shows?" or
"Will you come to our next show and take pictures?"

Contact me in advance, and add me to the guest list, crew list, or any crew/press list available. This is particularly helpful at World Cafe Live, so I can take pictures from backstage, which tend to turn out well.

Depending where your show is and if I shot there before, I may recommend waiting for a more photo-friendly venue.

To guarantee my services for a certain show, and to own reprinting rights to all the images you select, a deposit is required prior to the show.

"Will you take pictures for our web site / CD booklet?"
"Will you do a photo shoot?"

Yes. I prefer taking a photojournalistic (unobtrusive, non-directing) approach to promotional shots. Do something fun as a group and I'll capture it.  If yo have ideas of what you want, I'm willing to listen, so contact me.

I'll do the normal head shots / posed promo shots, too, but it won't be as fun or character-fitting.
