FAQs

Why is the 2004-05 school year's financial goals so high?
For the second consecutive year cuts in Sacramento have put core educational programs at risk of being eliminated. Having already reduced Livermore School District's budget by $9M over the last few years, the only option available to parents, educators and friends is to raise revenue.

Why is Class Size Reduction so important?
Reading proficiency is a critical for children to achieve academic success. Reduced class sizes through 3rd Grade will give children the best opportunity to achieve this reading proficiency and provide an excellent educational foundation for future years.

Who pays for Class Size Reduction?
The additional costs of reduced class sizes are shared by the State of California and school district. Currently the State provides $906 per student enrolled in this program. For Livermore this will mean 79 teachers.

Why does the “price” of Class Size Reduction seem to change?
The State reduced its support in 2003 to $808 per student and then, after much protest, reinstated the $906 funding per student. Regardless of what amount the State pays, the Livermore School District is expected to make up the rest.

Why can't my donation be allocated to my child's school or classroom?
For allocation purposes we've provided 4 options for directing your donation:
- Elementary Schools
- Middle Schools
- High Schools
- Area of greatest need
The programs LVEF will attempt to fund can be found in the Goals link on this website. Allocating funds more specifically than the 4 areas noted above can result in funds being “trapped” because an entire program cannot be supported. LVEF will allocate funds only as designated by the donor.

If I donate and the goal is not met, what will happen to the funds?
Your donation will be used for other programs in the category you have chosen. For instance if a donation was made at the Elementary School Level and totals for the first priority were not met, the money would then be used for the next elementary priority provided there were enough funds.

What is the relationship of LVEF with the recent Livermore Community Save Our Schools (SOS) Campaign?
The Livermore Save Our Schools (SOS) Campagin is a grass-roots campaign initiated by concerned parents and residents of Livermore about the proposed school closures. The LVEF is focused on the programs that the District provides overall. For further information, see the SOS website at:
http://savelivermoreschools.org/

What would happen if Livermore schools received funding per student equal to that of its neighboring school districts?
The programs targeted to cut and schools targeted for closure would no longer be at risk for the 2004-05 school year.
