Dr. Lynn Brandsma

Licensed Professional Counselor

Dr. Lynn Brandsma is currently Assistant Professor of Psychology at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA, where she coordinates the undergraduate BS/MS program in clinical/counseling psychology.  After obtaining her undergraduate degree in music therapy, she obtained a Master’s in Counseling at Illinois State University, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education at the University of Arkansas.  Dr. Brandsma was the founder and Clinical Director of the Lutheran Hospital Eating Disorder Treatment Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  She also served on the faculty of North Dakota State University before moving to the Philadelphia area in 1997. 
 
Dr. Brandsma is a licensed professional counselor and board certified music therapist, with a clinical specialty in cognitive-behavioral and acceptance-based behavioral treatments of obesity, weight related issues, body image, and women’s issues.  She is the Past President of the Philadelphia Behavior Therapy Association.  She has published professional papers on topics related to anxiety disorders, attitudes toward obesity, eating disorders across the lifespan, and the use of creative arts therapies in psychotherapy.
 
A native of Iowa, Dr. Brandsma currently resides with her husband and four children --including a disabled son -- in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.  She serves on the Board of Trustees of the Ardmore Community Library.
