Impeccably printed on heavy buff parchment and embellished with artwork,
these arrangements will enhance the harpist’s repertoire, from beginner
to professional.
This
cherished Welsh folk tune has been arranged as harp solo, duo, or trio.
Set in the key of C, there are no lever changes. The melody solo is flowing
and expressive; mostly linear with a few three-note chords making this
easily playable by the advanced beginner. Part two features an interesting
counter melody and simple LH accompaniment that most beginners can play.
Part three is mostly dotted half notes in octave unison, playable by
the very new harpist. Either part two or three can accompany part one.
If the last note is transposed up an octave, the whole set is playable
on a 26 string folk harp. Three pages: $4.00
These traditional Scottish songs are absolutely beautiful on the harp!
Loch Tay, Arran, and Skye Boat Songs are arranged for the full-size lever
or pedal harp, in full, poetic arrangements and lead sheet versions. Keys
are in one or two sharps, with no accidentals. Loch Tay includes chords
and ornamentation, with a supportive LH presence that includes 1-5-8-9-10
or similar patterns, full reaching in chords, and interesting triplets.
Moody and mysterious, the Arran Boat Song is mainly intervals or triads
in the RH, with poignant suspensions lending depth.
LH is simple. Skye Boat Song has a graceful running LH moving under a
melodic line incorporating triads. Knowledge of placing, crossing, and
hand-over-hand technique is helpful on these intermediate level arrangements.
A few fingerings and crossings are indicated. Nine pages: $5.50
Here are three traditional pieces playable on the small harp going down
to G below middle C: “English Country Garden,” “Jamaica,” and “Shepherd’s
Hey!” Set in the keys of C and G (one sharp), a beginner with some experience

“The First Noel” and “St. Columba’s Hymn” (The King of Love My Shepherd
Is) entwine in a peaceful and evocative union. Set in the key of C, these
pieces go down to C below middle C, with no accidentals. Frequent clef
changes occur in the LH, and PDLT, suspensions, and drone-like LH variations
add interest. Rolled triads and a few 4 note chords are achievable by
the advanced beginner and up. Some fingerings and crossings are indicated.

This set features the three beloved hymns “Be Thou My Vision,” “Wondrous
Love,” and “All Through the Night,” suitable for pedal or full-size lever
harp. The tunes are set in G (one sharp) and D Dorian (no sharps), and
have no accidentals. The set comes both in lead sheet form and full harp
versions for each hymn. Each piece begins simply, and moves into flowing
and expressive arrangements that require a full reach, and knowledge of
placing and crossing. A few fingerings are indicated.
Be Thou starts with unison octaves, then moves into rolled chords and
common LH patterns such as 1-5-8-9-10. Wondrous Love features rich rolled
tenths in the LH. There is much movement and mood change within All Through
the Night. Glorious at church or as wedding or memorial preludes. Best

Romp
through three energetic jigs with this set featuring “Fling the Spurtle,”
“Garrett Barry’s,” and “Behind the Haystack,” for full-size lever or pedal
harp. Keys are in one or no sharps (G, C, D Mixolydian), and there are
no lever changes. Each piece comes in lead sheet and full harp arrangement
versions. An intermediate or above player would do well on these fun songs.
Melodies move quickly, and LH patterns involve cool drones, open fifths,
syncopation, and counter-melody passages.
Some ornamentation and crossings are notated, and a few fingerings assist
in tricky spots. “Fling the Spurtle” and “Behind the Haystack” are upbeat
and jolly, while “Garrett Barry’s” moves into that darker Mixolydian groove.
These would be great to play at ceilidhs, at the feis, or at Highland
games! Six pages: $5.00

This popular harp tutorial presents basic technique for the beginning
pedal or lever harpist. Based on the Grandjany style, it includes exercises
and etudes in a sensible, evolving order of difficulty. Songs are evocative
and varied in mood, and have fun titles that kids enjoy. Explanatory text
and photographs help clarify body position and technique.
In addition, “Hands Upon the Harp” covers basic mode theory, with an
easy overview of Greek, Hejaz, and pentatonic modes. The mode of each
tune is identified so the ear can become familiar with different modal
nuances, and an appendix takes one simple song through every Greek mode,
with appropriate LH accompaniment. Best for the student with a little
theory background.
This book works well with other introductory books, with supplementary
solos, or alone. Recommended! 50 pages: $15.00
