A Melody for Adrian

A Melody for Adrian has been a long labor of love. The first draft was written when I was 18 and fresh out of high school. I remember listening to Billy Idol’s first solo album over and over as I furiously wrote about a character inspired by him. After graduating from University of North Florida in 1997, I dusted it off, and polished it up to its current state. This summer, I began working on the first sequel to the story of Adrian and Melody. There will be a third as well.

I always joked that when I published my book, I’d get to meet Billy Idol because he might sue me. In March of 2005, I discovered that Billy would be playing a show in Orlando, Florida on April 26th, three days before my 40th birthday. At the time, I was in a financial bind, and really could not afford tickets. But, after weeks of debating, I said what the hell. After all, I was turning 40, he is my favorite rocker and I might not get another chance to see him again. I purchased tickets and immediately wrote about my excitement on the message board of his website. I also mentioned the fact that he had inspired a book that I had written and was hoping to publish soon. April 26th came and my daughter and I went to the show. He was amazing! At 50, he rocked even harder than the first time I saw him in 1984. During the song Rebel Yell, he suddenly and without any warning announced that he had to send a special message out to Malynda. He said, “Malynda I know you’re out there and you know I love you.” At which point I went totally bonkers. I made enough noise and jumped up high enough so that he saw me near the stage. Pointing, he said in the sexiest British accent, “Is that you luv, I read your mail.” Of course I cried like a 12 year old at an NSYNC concert. He was even sweet enough to sign the concert shirt I had purchased. After the concert, I realized that I had to step up and get this book published.

My wish now is that Billy Idol someday actually reads the book and loves it as much as I do. The characters of Adrian and Melody, along with their friends have become very dear to my heart. I hope everyone falls in love with their story and will be anxious to read the sequel.

Absolutely no one had ever stood up to Bolt Hall and not suffered because of it!

Yet Melody did, stopping Bolt from bullying a fellow student, embarrassing him in front of the classmates who feared him, threatening his reputation. Instead of being furious, Bolt was completely turned on by her courage and her spunk.

Bolt Hall with his torn jeans, ripped t-shirts and combat boots dreamed of being a punk rock star. Fame and fortune would be his, along with a different woman for every night of the week. In 1981, his senior year of high school, he was on his way. He had the look, the attitude, and a band that kicked ass. The last thing he needed was a distraction. And that’s just what SHE was. From the moment their paths clashed, he knew he had to have Melody no matter what . . . even if she couldn’t stand the sight of him.

Melody Stewart grew up in a life of privilege with wealthy parents who packed her off to boarding school at a young age. Returning now to public school for her senior year, the only thing she wanted to do was fit in. She wasn’t trying to attract anyone’s attention, especially that of a rude punker intent on robbing her of her virginity. Someone who would use her and discard her as he had done to so many others. Melody was determined to fight Bolt’s advances . . . even if it meant denying her own infatuation with the spike haired, rock star wannabe.

Melody and Bolt . . . so different. . . yet intensely attracted to one another. Will they ever stop fighting long enough to fall in love?
