Yoga is the bringing together of the whole person in union. This
ancient practice is primarily intended to bring out our wiser and understanding selves. Yoga subscribes to the concept that life is
always in change and flux. Our experience of change, whether in
daily schedules, health, or mood, largely depends on our
ability to respond. Yoga provides a process of deep un-conditioning of
reactions that deplete our energies. Yoga practice, through its
awareness to breath, postures and self nurturing, reminds us that there
is something deep at our core that is unchanging, pure and
grounded. The asana practice cultivates a sense of inner
connectedness by finding peace within active and still postures, which are
metaphors for life, as well as offering still moments to resolve the
patterns of emotional conflicts in order tranform them into a concordance of self understanding.
Vinyasa means “to place in a special way.“ Vinyasa yoga is a an evolving form
of traditional Hatha yoga that focuses on creatively linking pose
to pose while synchronizing breath with movement into a meditative flow.
Yin comes from the Taoist concepts of Yin/Yang. These are descriptive terms that are used to compare all levels of phenomena. Yin is the stable, dense, hidden, and intuitive aspect of things while Yang is the moving, changing, revealing, and rational aspect. Ancient Chinese, Japanese, and Indian health systems have demonstrated for thousands of years the pathways or "meridians/nadis" where life energy "chi/prana" moves. Modern science has found that this life energy moves within the water rich "Yin" connective tissues throughout the body and can how it tends to stagnant around joints where connective tissue is the most dense. The Yin Yoga practice takes us into joints and deeper tissues not only for structural rebalancing but also to stimulate organ health and promote psychological well-being.
