The Mystery about to be solved !

In 1977 Drake offered the SSR-1, it was not made by Drake which caused a bit of an uproar because it wasn't the typical Drake.  In the April 1984 ANARC newsletter, it was reported that Seiwa corporation of Japan was the manufacturer and that it was still available on the Japanese market. I am still trying to find out if Standard is the Seiwa name outside Japan. Here is what I have so far.

the receivers in question are:

Standard C6500  (the mother radio)

Drake SSR-1 (America) (son)

Century 21 (Germany) (son)

Lowe SRX-30 (UK) (son)

Lowe SRX-30D (UK) (grandson, with digital readout)

Examine these pictures:

here are 4 of them          Here are the backs      here is the SRX-30, the first clone sold

Now examine the insides:

      C6500

     SSR-1

    Century 21

What is interesting is that they are not identical. the SSR-1 uses bi-polar transistors throughout while the C6500 has dual gate MOSFETs in the oscillator circuits. There are other minor differences but it is clear the same people designed and built them all. A mystery that even Fred Osterman never figured out !
