Turkey Day @ The Shores

Midget A/JV Tournament
Championship Game

Michigan Jaguars Midget A
vs.
Michigan Blues Midget A

Sunday, November 30, 2008
St. Clair Shores Civic Arena

So, here we are in the Championship Game ...

... of this Turkey Day Tournament ...

... with the Jags and the Blues ...

... Facing-Off for the 2nd Time ...

... in Three Days ...

... with Both Teams having Demolished ...

... the Other Two Teams in the Fray ...

... Both Prep/JV Squads.

The Jaguars were the Odds-On-Favorites ...

... to Win this One, too ...

... since They Managed to Secure a Victory ...

... in a Close Game versus the Blues ...

... in Their First Encounter ...

... on Friday.

#30 Robert Berman was Installed In the Visitor's Net, today ...

... Who, BTW ... also Skates-Out when not Tending, and ...

... #1 Blake Knaffla had The Honors for the Jaguars.

Well, it looked like this would be a Repeat ...

... of Game Number One ...

... Low Scoring!

While the Jags and the Blues ...

... are in Different LCAHL Divisons ...

... They Both seemed Well-Matched ...

... at least, This Weekend ...

... with Goaltending and Defense ...

... being Rock-Solid ...

... at Both Ends of the ice.

Then, with Three Minutes Expired ...

... in P2 ...

... #25 Michael Payne ...

... Finds the Puck on Hiz Stick ...

... and Collects the First Score of the Game ...

... with #9 Blake Gromek getting the Assist.

That did Not Set Well ...

... with the Jaguars ...

... Who had Allowed a Total of Two Goals ...

... in Their Previous Three Contests ...

... and, Promptly Tie It Up ...

... give that Goal to #14 Justin Boyd ...

... from #40 Kyle Latimer and #93 Anthony Bonanni.

So, now, it was the Blues ...

... Who were Not Pleased ...

... Driving Hard to the Net ... giving Knaffla, et al, Lots of Excitement...

... but, the Jags were able to Gain Control ...

... allowing Defenseman #21 Mike Walter a Shot ...

... from the Circle that somehow Got By #30 ...

... for the Go-Ahead Goal ...

... thanks to #13 Kory Lohrmann and #25 Kyle Horn.

Now, the Home Team ...

... had That Momentum going ...

... and, Intended to put the Visitors ...

... Deeper In The Hole ...

... but, Mr. Berman and Hiz Dee ...

... didn't see That Happening ...

... at The Moment!

The Jags would Pick-Up a Penalty ...

... with 2:40 on the P2 Clock ...

... and had Things Under Control ...

... until #18 Harry Lewis got one off from the Point ...

... which got by Knaffla on the Screen ...

... to Tie the Game ... Assist by #9 Gromek, again.

Well, The-Fans-In-The-Stands ...

... could see where This Scramble was going ...

... and, It would be a Nail-Bitter ...

... All Tied Up ...

... with just Fourteen Minutes to go.

While Neither Side ...

... was able to Take-Over the Game ...

... by any means ...

... the Photos do show ...

... where Most of the Action was in P3 ...

... and, That was mostly at the ...

... the Blues ...

... End of the Rink.

Goaler Berman was Very Busy ...

... for Most of P3 ...

... but, was seeing the Puck very well ...

... and, therefore, Keeping the Jags Out!

Mr. Numero Uno had a Few Up-Close-And-Personals ...

... but it was mostly All Jags ...

... doing the Pressuring ... but They could get Nuthin' For It ...

Ouch ... this is goin' to Hurt!

It is sore, Coach ..!

So, the Blues are now on the P-K ...

... but, the SCSRA actually handed out ...

... only Nine Tickets ...

... for the Entire Game ...

... so Special Teams were not much of an issue ...

... but, The Clock Was and Over-Time looked to be entirely possible.

But, no ... #7 Jimmy Marchese ...

... puts the Blues On-Top on the Pass from #22 Ben Hayward ...

... and, it sure looked like the Blues ...

... would Steal This Thing!

But, One Thing you don't want to do ...

... with the Michigan Jaguars ...

... is Count Them Out until the Fat Lady Sings ...

... as a Number of Teams have learned the Hard Way this Season.

GOAL!

Give the Game-Tier to #40 Kyle Latimer by Hizself ...

(Ummm ... anyone doing the Lotto today?)

So, now, it is Anybody's Ball-Game ...

... Sudden Death ...

... Sudden Victory ...

... the Next Goal Wins!

Incredible Work by the Jags G&D Department saved this one ...

... and, then, Incredible Work ...

... by the Blues ...

... and, this Reporter began to think about the possibility of a Shoot-Out ...

... Heaven Forbid ...

... when #13 Kory Lohrmann pulled the Puck out of the Scrum and ...

... headed Up Ice ...

... towards Pay-Dirt ...

... and Victory!

Supporting the Game Winner ...

...  #14 Boyd and #40 Latimer.

Being Goaltender is not always Rewarding ...
... but Robert Berman did what a Goalie is supposed to do,
and That is to give the Team a chance to win,
which he did, so Good for him!

So, the Michigan Jaguars ...

... Win this Turkey Day @ The Shores ...

... and, good work Goalie ...

... good work Goalie ...

... and, good work Captain Bonanni (MVP) ...

... and, good work Team!

Picture Time ...

... for Hockey Weekly ...

2008-2009 Midget A Champions

Sometime later ...

... Rodgers and Morey revisit Their Home-Away-From-Home ...

... in a Nostalgic Moment ...
... as the Zamboni comes on and the Lights go down ...
in the St. Clair Shores Civic Arena
.

Good Tourney, Boyz!
