2009
Detroit Regional Midget AA
Championship Game
Mt. Clemens
Wolves
Jamey Leger, Head Coach
vs.
Summit Plastic Molding
Steve Glover, Head Coach
Sunday, December 13, 2009
St. Clair Shores Civic Arena

So, here we are at the St. Clair Shores Detroit
Regional ...

... Silver Stick ...

... Midget 18U ...

... the Last Game of the Tournament ...

... and the Wolves Win the Face-Off ...

#15 Jesse Peterson Grabs the Puck taking the Dee Wide Right
...

... then In On Net ...

... to Score Solo at 12:42 P1.

Goalers Hate It when That Happens!

Speaking of Goalers ... that's #33 Chris Gagleard in for Mt.
Clemens ...

... and #33 Matt VanLacken in for Summit.

These two squads have met Three Times ...

... prior to This Contest ...

... with Summit holding a One Game Edge ...

... so far this Season.

But, This is the Detroit Regional Stick ...

... with Periods Just Thirteen-Minutes Long ...

... so, Anything can Happen around here ...

... and, Usually Does!

Now, about Gagleard and Hiz Wolves Defense ...

... well, They have been Pretty Good ...

... so far in this Stick ...

... having Shut-Out All Opponents ...

... through Four Round-Robin and Semi Games.

So, that's 156 Minutes in this Tourney with Nuttin' Goin'
In!

At 4:38 P1, the Ninty Boyz ...

... #92 Robert Domin and #91 Jeff Nolfo ...

... Combine for Wolves Goal Number Two.

VanLacken is not happy, of course ...

... but That would be the Last Goal ...

... these Wolves ...

... would get tonight ...

There were some Penalties ...

... mostly in the First Frame ...

... but none of these contributed to any scoring.

Mt. Clemens ...

... sat in the P-Box ...

... for Ten Minutes in P1 ...

... but the Home Team's P-K Unit ...

... didn't Miss A Beat ...

... so the Score remained Two-Zip ...

... at the Buzzer.

Period Two ...

... was Scoreless ...

... with Both Sides ...

... Pressing for Any Weakness ...

... to Exploit ...

... and, Finding None!

Player Down ...

... but the Officials find No Fault ...

... and Play Resumes.

Here, VanLacken gets called for Interference ...

... putting Hiz Side Short-Handed ...

... for Two Minutes.

Mt. Clemens put several P-P Lines out ...

... but went Nowhere ...

... since the Goalie had Shut-the-Door ...

... on Them ...

... Tonight!

What Summit needed Real Bad ...

... was some Points ...

... and the Visitors did get a Power-Play at 5:33 P2 ...

... to No Avail.

These two Teams are so Nearly Equal in Talent ...

... that Any More Scoring ...

... would be Hard-To-Come-By ...

... by Anyone!

VanLacken watches the Puck go High-Right ...

... and P2 is History ...

... and it's ...

... Just Thirteen-Minutes to Sarnia ...

... for Someone.

The Mt. Clemens Wolves ...

... and Summit Plastic Molding out of Fraser, Michigan ...

... are currently at the Top-of-the-Heap ...

... in the National Midget 18U Tier II
Rankings ...

"It is truly a pleasure to witness and be a part of the parity and level
of competition involved with the Metro Detroit Silver Stick Regional,"
said Dale Buss, Tournament Director.

"... The caliber of play is testament to the dedication and determination
of the players, coaches and parents."

"... The only sadness for me," Buss continued, "is that as
the players
get older, many of our best players leave the state
to play AAA and Junior hockey."

"... It would be great if the (Michigan) hockey world would look at the
competitive environment created by our Silver Stick with our
local teams and work to create a clear path for players
to progress from Mini-Mite to college right here
in our own state," said Buss.

"...Our youth teams fair well on the national and international levels.
Michigan hockey does not need to look outside for competition
and development, but should make changes to create that
right here in our state for our hockey people."

"Other states follow this type of model with a great deal of success,"
Buss concluded (as reported in Hockey Weekly, December 23, 2009.)

Time was Running Out in this one ...

... with Mt. Clemens Maintaining the Status-Quo ...

... and this Reporter did not see ...

... Anything Changing ...

... around Here ... unless ... Of Course ....

.. Someone Lost Discipline ... Self-Control ...

... Someone forgot about ...

... The Team ...

... the Mission ...

... the Championship ...

... The Silver Stick.

Didn't look like Anyone ...

... was Forgetting Any of That!

But, Time was Running Out ...

... and, but Quite Possibly ...

... the Longest 13 Minutes ...

... ever in a Hockey Game!

Then, at around 2:31 Left-To-Go ...

... #61 Drew Parus and #20 Taylor Tyll ...

... put the Puck on #7 Brian Tenhopen's Stick ...

... and, make It a One-Run Ballgame ... on the Screen.

Plenty of Time Left around here ...

... for a Summit Equalizer ...

... and the Visitors call their Time-Out to plot Strategy
...

... and the Wolves Plot Their Strategy ...

Gagleard and Mr. Chessman confer about This-n-That
...

... and, it's Back-to-Business ...

... with Summit needing ...

... to Pull Their Goalie ....

...for More Offense ...

... and Bedlam Ensues ...

... with a Furious Assault ...

... on the Mt. Clemens Goal ...

... but, the Home Boyz Hold Their Ground ...

... C H A O S ...

... with One Last Effort ...

... and the Clock Expires ...

... on one of the Best Games in SCS Stick History!

Both 33's would end up with the MVP!

Way to go
, Boyz!
