AVIATION

I fly Cessena C-172s and C-182s out of Morristown Municipal Airport (MMU) in Morristown, New Jersey.

In order to reduce the cost of flying, and to get a wide exposure to different types of aircraft, I joined the Skywaggon Flying Club. The club is based out of the West Tiedown of MMU. We own five airplanes.... two C-172, one C-182, one C-206, and a Mooney 20E.

This is the instrument panel of a typical Cessena 172. Please move the mouse over some of the instruments in order to see their names.

Places I've Flown to Lately

May 23, 1998 Piseco, NY (NY43) 3.4 hrs

Piseco is the only airport that is in the southern Adirondacks, and is the closest to our friends' house in Racquette Lake. A well-maintained 3500' paved strip, with friendly attendants who man the airport only during the summer season. I flew with the kids in the back seat, curled up in their sleeping bags. The wind was lightly choppy over the Catskills and Adirondacks.

Piseco is known for its brutal crosswinds. The approach to the airport is one of the most georgeous you will ever see.. right over a mountain lake. On final approach, we had a big jolt as a crosswind picked us up and threw us around. Managed to land. Then, I took my friend Chris on a air-tour over his house. A ten minute flight from Pisco to Racquette Lake. Since the winds were choppy, I stayed at around 5500'.

May 16, 1998 Gettysburg, PA (W05) 2.8 hrs

Morristown to the Solberg VOR to the Pottstown VOR to Doersom Airport (W05). Altitude was 5500 ft. Light mist, calm wind. Beautiful mid-Atlantic scenery. First time flying over Lancaster, Pa. I was surprised how big it was. Flew over York, and then over the small rolling hills of Gettysburg. At the end of the runway was my parents' white Volkswagen Vanagon camper. As soon as I landed, I started sneezing my head off. It had rained there for the previous two weeks, and I thought I had died and gone to mold-spore heaven. It was also extremely hot, humid and uncomfortable. I spent the day at the annual Gettsburg Blue Grass festival, which was not my cup of tea.
