We LOVE to learn!
Children
Children We welcome children for the opening part of the worship service, which includes music, responsive readings, and the reading of the scripture that they will be studying in their classes. The minister gathers the children on the steps of the chancel to talk about the day's message, closing with a circle and a prayer. The exuberant students exit for their workshops, where they spend about 40 minutes in learning activities, led by loving teachers. We offer workshops for children in kindergarten through 5th grade.
Youth Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders join with students from two other UCC congregations for Faith Formation, a two-year confirmation program which meets Sunday evenings for 90 minutes. Along with learning activities, fun and service pepper the schedule: for example, you might join them on an excursion to a climbing wall or pitch in for an Earth-Day environmental project.
Magnolia Mission Youth Magnolia Mission Youth is an ecumenical youth ministry supported by the Presbyterian, Lutheran, Episcopal and UCC congregations. Buzz Matthews, youth minister is assisted by several young adult volunteers and parents to provide age-appropriate activites for middle school youth (6th - 8th grade) in a group called Verge which meets Sunday evenings at 5:00 pm at the Lutheran church. The high school (9th - 12th grade) group called Leap of Faith meets on Sunday evenings at 7:00 pm at the Presbyterian church.
Adults
Circle of Stones Second and Fourth Monday, 10:00 am -Women of all ages are invited to participate in a new spirituality group called "Circle of Stones." This gathering welcomes women of varying ages to get together to learn and grow in faith. An important element is an opening "check-in," where each woman has an opportunity to share briefly how she is doing. Members of the group, using resources provided, take turns leading a program that opens up spiritual questions and learning. Sometimes this may include new rituals, sometimes discussion, sometimes activity. A prayer circle closes the time together. If you have any questions about this group, please contact Marilee in the church office.
