Efren Diaz

Efren was born on December 1, 1953 IN Santo Tomas, Batangas in the
Philippines. He attended Ateneo de San Pablo High School. He is the
recipient of the school's highest award, the Medal of Merit for outstanding
academics, extra-curricular activities and community service. He first came
to the United States as an exchange Scholar with the American Field Services
Program and attended the Mars High School in Pennsylvania for one year. He
attended 3 years of college at Ateneo de Manila as a Full Academic Scholar
majoring in Management Engineering.
He immigrated to the USA in 1974. He served in the US Navy from 1974 to 1980
and was stationed in Japan, Vietnam Europe and Moffett Field Naval Air
Station in California. While serving in Vietnam he helped evacuate thousands
of Vietnam refugees during the fall of Saigon. He is a recipient of various
Sailor of Month awards. In 1980, He earned his BS degree in Business
Administration from the College of Notre Dame still with the Navy going to
night school. He was selected for US Navy Officers Candidate School.
He is currently employed by United Stated Postal Service as Manager of
Statistical Programs. He is a recipient of USPS Vice-President Award in
2001. The highest award given by the Pacific Area (western states of the
United States)of the Postal Service.
He was past president and Board Member of the Philippine National Day
Association. He was Production Manager of Sinag-tala Theater project for 6
years. He is a co-founder of Parents and Supporters of Sinagtala. He
is heavily involved with the Fil-Am Youth Leadership Conference, Outstanding
Filipino Youth Awards. He is past co-chair of Annual Filipino Fiesta. He is
a member and former secretary of the Filipino-American Veterans Association
of Sacramento.
He first joined Maharlika Lions Club in March 2000 and has chaired and
co-chaired various projects. He is a recipient of Tom & Anna Mae Galligan
Youth Award from District 4-C5 for outstanding involvement with youth
activities in his first year in the Club.
Lion Efren is married to Ester Diaz and they have 3 children Charlene,
Edgar, Brian and son in law Jayson.
His hobbies are fishing, camping, kayaking, reading and watching sports.
His retirement plan is to travel across North America & Europe in an RV.
