Liste.manga.en - page 0

[Here is a copy of the most recent (as of 11/2005) version of the liste.manga.fr. I have interspersed my translation (indented slightly) with the original. I have also made a few additions to the information (publishers' blurbs, my own opinions, the difficulty of the French version, the existence of corresponding English editions...), which I have marked off with brackets like these: [ ]

Introduction

This list of mangas appearing in France gathers together the available information on Japanese comics published in French.

It is posted every month to the newsgroups fr.rec.anime and fr.rec.arts.bd. Updates may be issued during the month if large revisions have to be made to the document.

The list allows those interested in manga to keep up to date on what can be found in their bookstores. [OK, maybe not *your* bookstore, but sources are available.]

For each manga, a certain number of fields is provided. To the extent possible, we keep to the same format, so that you can import the information into your favorite database.

You can send your corrections or additions to the address indicated at the beginning of this document under the field "Maintenance." The "Subject" field in your mail should be "Rectificatif [correction] liste.manga.fr." After verification, your modifications will be added at the time of the next posting of the list.

[If you have any corrections for my translation or information, please send them to mahousu@gmail.com. I'm particularly interested in information on reading difficulty! I'm not always going to be the best judge of that.]

Les nouveautés

New items

[NOUVEAU]: toute la section est nouvelle.
[MODIFIE]: la description a été modifiée, dans ce cas, les lignes modifiées commencent par un '|'.
[EN PREVISION]: Ça n'est pas encore sorti, mais c'est imminent.

To indicate changes made from the previous edition, these indicators may be found before the "Name" field. Here is what they mean:

[NEW]: The entire section is new.
[MODIFIED]: The description has been modified. In this case, the modified lines begin with a '|'. [Well, not really...]
[PREVIEW]: The item has not yet been released, but should be soon.

[Actually, such items are marked NOUVEAU but with availability as "À paraître" (to appear).]

[Entries I've added to the original list are marked [AJOUTE].]

[Note: in the HTML version, just for fun I use Japanese markers instead - shin (http:images/shin.gif) for new, ka(eta) (http:images/kae.gif) for modified, and ka(eta) (http:images/ka.gif) for ones I've added.]

Liste des champs

List of fields

Name: The French title
A.k.a.: The original title and possibly the English one as well. [I have added notes about any English versions I'm aware of. English version information either comes from my personal experience, or from Alan Peter's excellent AnimeMania site at http://animemania01.tripod.com/.]
Author: Name of the author. If the artist and writer are different, two fields (Artist and Writer) replace the field Author.
Editor: The French editor/publisher
Volumes: The number of volumes which have appeared in French.
Vol Orig: The number of volumes which have appeared in the original.
Genre: An open-ended field to describe the genre of the manga. If several genres are applicable, they are separated by a '/'.
Quality: This has to do with the quality of the French edition, from a technical viewpoint. Subfields are Print Quality, Translation,...
[Price code: A = less than 5EUR, B = 5-7EUR, C = 7-9EUR, D = 9EUR and up. These prices are "generally found" and indicate more or less a "range" or "class" of price.] [At current exchange rates, including shipping, expect to pay something like A = US$6-$7, B = $7-$10, C = $9-$13, D=$13+. Unfortunately, the price codes got a bit inaccurate over time (e.g., some A's should be B's and vice versa) and so were eventually dropped in the distributed liste. I've retained them, for whatever they're worth.]
[Availability: Starting in number 89, the price codes have been replaced by indications of the availability of the title. Unfortunately, these aren't totally accurate yet, but I've tried to indicate what I know about this as well.]
Synopsis: The story in a few lines
Commentary: One to five commentaries in two to four lines. [Well, some commentaries are a lot longer...]
[Difficulty: Where I have seen the French version, I may put in one or two lines on its difficulty, for someone with perhaps 1-2 years of French.]
