Egyptian music was a revelation to me. When first I began to dance, the music my teacher used was mostly Turkish, except for one warmup song which was Egyptian. It took a few years for my ears to become accustomed to the difference tonal structure of Egyptian music, but the rhythms appealed immediately.
Music is the soul of Egyptian dance, so a good collection of appropriate music is essential to understanding, learning and performing the dance. Here are links to some of my favorite music-addiction-enabling websites:
Hossam Ramzy - Unquestionably the most incredible music being produced today for Egyptian dance. I have and use ALL his music!
Arabic Music Direct
Aramusic
Araby Music
Mazaj Music
Maqam
Pe-Ko Records
Piranha - Source of Jalilahs Raqs Sharqi series as well as Mahmoud Fadl. These are required listening for Egyptian-style dancers.
