Giving thanks for good friends
By Samantha Perez
|
Ponchatoula, LA - Dec. 7, 2005
(Excerpt) ... We hung out that night with the old group, the old gang. We laughed the entire time, just making fun of everything. Its amazing how much better things seem when you are laughing at them with your friends. The retreat leaders separated boys from girls a little past midnight, and Jenn, Leanne, and I set up our sleeping bags near the border of the gym, the line where boys were separate by girls. After everyone started settling down and Leanne fell asleep, Jenn and I had another serious talk about everything new in our lives. We talked for a long time, until both of us were too tired to stay awake. To read the latest, click on 'Giving thanks for good friends' and subsequent entries (This printed edition contains a journal entry called 'Giving thanks for good friends' and 'A long-awaited, post-Katrina class reunion.') Starting the day after Hurricane Katrina stormed across the Gulf Coast, killing thousands and chasing millions from their homes, 17-year-old Samantha Perez began to tell her heartbreaking story. This is the tenth printed installment, containing her 20th and 21st diary entries. To read all of Perez's work, including later entries, follow link.
