Pain of divorce lingers
By Devin Kingsbury
If family values are important issues, then why are so many families broken apart by divorce?
Many divorces are the result of years of various abuses. When children are involved, there are often custoday hearings which can especially traumatize children.
I experienced this pain when my parents divorced 11 years ago, and to this day I wonder how different my life would be today if they had never separated.
I can vividly remember waking to my parents arguing late at night.
I usually see my father and stepmother during the summer at their house in Maine. When he and I are together, it seems as if he's always been around.
Yet it hurts to know I don't see my father very much and I feel I don't really know what it's like having a father to talk about sports or life -- or just spend time with.
My father is one of the greatest people I know except for my mother, who has the courage to raise us on her own. And she's done a great job.
I'll always remember my parents for the courage and love they've shown my brother and me.
