My Furniture Finishing Tips

  1.  Sand all surfaces, edges and ends with 100 garnet sandpaper
  2.  Sand all surfaces, edges and ends with 120 garnet sandpaper
  3.  Sand all surfaces, edges and ends with 150 garnet sandpaper
  4.  Apply oil base stain (if desired), and allow 24 hours to dry
  5.  Wipe off dust with tack cloth
  6.  Brush on shellac wash coat, (1 part shellac to 7 parts alcohol), Let dry 1 hour

 Note in lieu of shellac a sanding sealer may be used for steps #6 & 9

  1.  Sand all surfaces, edges and ends with 120 garnet sandpaper
  2.  Wipe off dust with tack cloth
  3.  Brush on shellac coat, (1 part shellac to 4 parts alcohol), Let dry 24 hours
  4.  Sand all surfaces, edges and ends with 150 garnet sandpaper
  5.  Wipe off dust with tack cloth
  6.  Brush on Polyurethane, first coat, Let dry 24 hours
  7.  Sand all surfaces, edges and ends with 200 garnet sandpaper
  8.  Wipe off dust with tack cloth
  9.  Brush on Polyurethane second coat, Let dry 24 hours
  10.  Sand all surfaces, edges and ends with wet 300 waterproof sandpaper
  11.  Wipe off dust with tack cloth
  12.  Brush on Polyurethane third coat, Let dry 48 hours
  13.  Sand all surfaces, edges and ends with 400 waterproof sandpaper
  14.  Wipe off dust with soft cloth
  15.  Rub the finish surfaces with pumice stone and water
  16.  Wipe off the dust with soft cloth
  17.  Rub the finish surfaces with rottenstone and oil
  18.  Buff and clean up with soft cloth
  19.  The End,  Now Enjoy
