2. Liaison (unfilled, as of yet).

3. Mailing List:
Tracey has offered to keep this up to date.

4. Web Master:

5. Recording Secretary (taking meeting notes):
Myself?Jonelle

6. Documentation (maintaining passwords and file storage):
Matt has volunteered.

Greg, with Matt's assistance, attempted to set up the Dell laser (S2500)
printer on the network. Initially he set it up as a peripheral of
workstation #12. Others could use it, but it was not a "share"?a network
resource. This meant that #12 would have to be running in order for the
printer to be accessible?not what we want. Using the Dell setup utility,
Greg then typed in its MAC address (its factory-coded number). He gave it
a static IP address, using a high number for the last octet of the subnet
mask. He set the gateway default (the address of the router). This worked
and the printer was visible through the browser address bar. He still
wants to configure it as a DHCP in another session. He discussed subnet
masks and demonstrated the "tracert" (trace route) command that reveals all
the hops between the client and the server it is addressing. Attempts to
"ping" www.phila.gov were blocked by its firewall.

Matt demoed some DOS commands. Kevin demoed "Slackware", a version of the
Linux operating system, from an executable CD ROM from KNOPPIX 3.4
