Mount Airy Learning Tree's Computer Volunteer Group

Computer Volunteer Group Activities Conducted on July 10, 2002
At Mount Airy Presbyterian Church

Computer Camp will have roughly 1/2 the estimated number of children , therefore the deadline now consists of getting the A side computers imaged and ready for Windows 2000 internet sharing so that Comcast can come in on Monday, July 15.

The class took a field trip to the Malt Office basement.
We looked for a server. There was one but it needed more work than the one back at the MAPC lab. That server had Eisa Bus, current industry standard, PCI.
In the basement we found 4 cornerstone monitors. We also found donated computers being used as skids, lesson learned- don't by a PowerSpec machine.
Several of our members bought computer tool at the dollar store accross the street.

We will be going to The Germantown YWCA in August.

From a previous lecture:
There was a lecture concerning the near future design of the room and diagrams were drawn. They describe a segmented network as the next step in our development. From the internet, the connection would go through a gateway PC which will have a firewall, routing and sharing software and the one IP address issued by Comcast. From the gateway the connection will travel to a PC with 2 NIC-(Network) cards and then 2 wires would lead to two separate hubs these two hubs separate or segment the network. This is where the network is separated. Then the individual users pc come off these two hubs. This 2 hub/wire separation forms 2 secure networks. Information on one network cannot be accessed by pc's on the other network. Even though they share the same internet connection.

Other Future plans for the MAPC location include 4 separate segments. To be defined at a later date.

******Reminder for Mr. Jenkins:
Windows98/Windows2000(?) CD for Internet sharing with valid registration numbers.
