We had 14 participants in our Pawnee Buttes hike. Meeting time was 9:00 AM; it was surprising how cool it was on the high plains - about 50 degrees and windy. As time passed it warmed up, the wind went down a bit, and more people showed on the trail. It was good that we got an early start!
Chuchang took point out of the parking lot. Within 100 yards she spotted a horny
toad and we all stopped to look
This turned out to be a theme - we saw at least half a dozen of the lizards
even though a guide book stated that it is unusual to see two in a day!
The wildflowers were starting to bloom
and we also saw some small local wildlife - a stinkbug!.
Once we got to the base of the second butte, we stopped for lunch

On the way back
we encountered yet more of the desert horned lizards
We had a great time on the hike. Thanks Devon for setting this up!
