WORK

I am a scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab. My research is currently focused on understanding turbulent flame dynamics. Visit my professional webpage for the gory details. For the non-scientific folks, the work can be summarized easily enough. In my group, we build and run some of the most detailed computer simulations of turbulent burning flows in the world. The computer algorithms we use for this are highly specialized and are pretty much always running on the largest supercomputers around the world. I generated most the pictures on my group's website (especially those involving flames) based on the work we're doing. Most the work, it turns out, is published in highly technical journals-only the pictures are useful for regular people. I have a PhD from UCLA in Nuclear Engineering and Applied Plasma Physics. My Master's degree is from UCLA and my Bachelor's degree is from UC Berkeley.

PLAY

Away from work, I play drums in a band named Doc Freud (go check out the band's website). The music is mostly heavy loud rock, and is sort of an amalgam of many things we all like. We started the band in January of 2002, but didn't find a permenent bass player until October of 2004. We recorded three of our songs back in early 2004 with a borrowed bass player-those songs are still available on the band website. We're currently writing lots of new music and playing out and about quite a bit (the band website has a "Gigs" page to list dates and such).

I've been playing drums most of my life as a hobby-started in the fourth grade. I've played in probably ten or so bands, but have only recorded with a few, and only two of those have actually produced music available on the internet-Doc Freud and Cradle. Cradle is a band of my very good friends, and they asked me to sit in and record two of their tracks to finish their CD. If you can find their first CD "Insane" at their site, that's me on the first two songs: "Free" and "Millionaire". Frank, the bass player in Cradle, is the guy we borrowed for our songs.
