Have you ever met a challenge and achieved it?
We had just merged with Exodus Communications, and the new CEO decided to close our Hawaii office as a cost-cutting measure. Our CIO agreed that we could lay off the billing personnel in that office, and process the Digital Island customer invoices through the Exodus rating engine. Unfortunately, he didn't know that their system wasn't set up to handle the types of rating algorithms we had. And changing the contracts of our large multi-national customers would have taken months of negotiation.
With half the billing staff already gone, I was asked to see what I could do to automate the process so we didn't lose the $10M in monthly revenue that was now at risk. I had less than a month. Working 100 hour weeks, I managed to develop a work-around that did the job for the first billing cycle. Over the next three months I worked closely with the Exodus billing team to enhanced and test the system, and cleanse the underlying data in our order entry system. 18 months later that system is still running great.
