Alan L. Hoffman - A Memorial

My father, Alan L. Hoffman, passed away March 27, 2002 at 3:24 AM. He was the cherished husband of Florence "Tina" (nee Campion) and loving father of Martin A. (Cheryl), Alana Marie and Mary H. Pohlig (Chris). He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne (Kathy) and Wesley (Tess), his uncle, Bill Fagundus, and many other loving relatives. He was an Eagle Scout, U.S. Army veteran and the Vice Commander of American Legion post 204.

My family and I were overwhelmed with messages of sympathy and affection from family and friends. If we did not thank you personally, please be assured that it was merely an oversight. Every message of sympathy helped us. We all appreciate your support and will try to write to each of you individually as time goes on. For now, please accept our thanks, and please know that your encouragement was helpful in our time of need. Even the Philadelphia Inquirer ran an extensive obituary, which can be viewed at http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/obituaries/2951171.htm

A touchstone in Dad's life was his gardening. We forgot to mention it to the Inquirer, perhaps because it was so much a part of him that it became transparent to us. Dad was a nurturer and loved life. This spring, why not plant a flower in your own backyard, and think of him? For those of you who are more ambitious, try a few tomato or pepper plants. Apartment dwellers may want to try a window box or some kitchen herbs on a windowsill. I think that would be a fitting tribute.

Donations is his name are also being accepted by the "de Sales / Campion Scholarship Fund"
c/o St. Francis de Sales School
917 S. 47th Street
Philadelphia, PA 19143
Dad was instrumental in establishing this fund and all donations are appreciated.
