My grandfather, Edmond Brown and his brothers/cousins owned the Cog Hill mill during it's hayday before 1930. I would love to have a print of this if you have any available. Please email me at chester.post@gmail.com
In 1987 I picked up a paint brush and began painting. I painted everything from old barns to people. I soon found out that old buildings and familiar places was what kept me inspired.
So, it came as no surprise that I painted the Old Reliance Church in Reliance Tennessee. This old church sits on the bank of the beautiful Hiwassee River in Polk County.
There along with many, many others I was baptized. My memories of the day was of holding hands as we inched our way into the icy waters of the river while our loved ones looked on and sang 'Shall We Gather At The River'. All the ladies wore dresses and the men, white shirts with skinny ties. We girls in that group also had on dresses which our Mothers had pinned between our legs with a safty pin to keep them from flying over our heads when we went under. Our sweet Mothers with tears in their eyes, stood there waiting with towels and ushered us into the old church to change into dry clothes.
So, the old church holds treasured memories and it was one of my first paintings. When others saw it, they wanted one as well so my first print was born.
Others followed of special places near and dear to my heart. I hope you enjoy going down memory lane with me.
Check out the other print pages and please sign the guest book before you leave.
