The Christmas tree at Trafalgar Square is a gift from the city of Oslo in appreciation for the assistance given by London during WW2 Behind the tree you can see Nelson's column and Big Ben (just to the left of the tree).

This gaudy Christmas Fayre was in full swing every night at Leicester Square
