Mario's Mudhole at
Green Ridge State Park, March 2007

These photos show how Mario's Mudhole got its name.  On the outbound part of the ride several of us went through this mudhole.  So I thought nothing about riding through it on the return.  I started off fairly well.

What I didn't know is that there was a wall at the very end. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get the rear tires to go over it. Here is the video of my attempt.  As you can see I had absolutely no traction.  But all was not lost.  I used this video to justify getting "new" tires.

I could not even be towed out.  When Rip tried to winch me out, his rig was pulled toward the Trooper.  He had to chain his FJ to a tree in order to winch me out. Here is a link to the video.

Ben blasting through the mudhole. The amazing thing was that he
did this with his wife looking on.  He is very brave!

A link to info about Green Ridge State Park. The entrance to the trails is off of I-68 exit 62. About 1/4 mile South of the interstate on Fifteen Mile Creek Road, you will see the correctional school for boys (a series of low buildings on the left). Fifteen Mile Creek Road becomes a dirt road just after the school and connects with the East Valley Rd/Stafford Rd loop.  The loop is about 18 miles long and is one way, as is noted on the map below. There is a scenic overlook at the South end of the loop which is a good place to stop and take photos.
