Dec. 15, 2007 Ride Through Rausch Creek Mark of the NewX.Org put together a winter run at Rausch Creek. The Group consisted of 5 Xterras, 2 FJs, a Jeep Wrangler and the Old Trooper. Because of the conditions, and the fact that one of the FJs was barely a month old and the other was only 2 weeks old, we agreed to stay on the greens. In fact, getting from the parking lot to the office to check in was probably the most hazardous part of the trip. As you can see, the parking lot was very icy. Many were doing donuts!
The Green trails mostly consisted of smooth icy sections, forest trails, mud and some small rocks. This video, courtesy of Creek of TheNewX.org, provides a good sense of the Green trails at RC given the wintery conditions. Here are some shots of the smooth sections.
Here are some shots of us on the forest trails.
Here are links to video#1 and video#2, followed by some photos of us going through ruts. The ruts were actually the most challenging sections of the trails, especially when they were full of mud and rocks.
Here is a video followed by some shots of us going through the mud. Notice the chunks of ice in some of the shots.
Here are some shots of us going over the small rocks.
Here is something that you don't see very often, a box truck stuck on the trail. The driver's home was a few hundred yards into the park. He didn't make it and had to be rescued.
Here is the entire group.
