Nov 5th Ride Through Wharton State Forest

Although there are several wide dirt roads that can be driven by 2WD vehicles, the trails in the forest tend to be very narrow.  This is one of the wider ones.

As you go down the trails you frequently encounter bogs and mud holes.

Many are shallow and are fun to blast through.

Others are very deep and if you make a bad decision, well . . . . Just ask TrentonCruiser what can happen!

Fortunately, TrackerBB and RedTrooper missed this one, so we were able to help.

The Troop tried and tried to pull out the FJ, but all it could do was dig itself in.

Luckily, TrentonCruiser's Warn9000 was able to do the trick.

Unfortunately, the Warn could not help with this problem.

We also found a sand pit and some ruins.

Here is a map showing the location of Wharton.
We usually enter the forest by the ranger station on RT206 in the town of Atsion, NJ.

Epilogue: I returned to Wharton, about a month later.  This time it was my turn to get stuck in
the deep muck.  Luckily, my brother-in-law, Don, was able to tow me out with his FJ.
Lesson learned -- It is not good to fool with Mother Nature, especially with 29" street tires!!
