There are some terrific plate sites out there. And lots of sites with many more links than you'll find here. At this point, I'm just listing some of my personal favorites that I check often.

The Plateshed - A wonderful discussion forum for Australian, World or US plates. Posters have full ability to attach pictures, URLs, etc. to their messages. Lots of interesting topics along with many trade and wanted lists, etc. IMHO the best plate site on the internet. Check it out!
ALPCA - The Automobile License Plate Collectors' Association - The largest of the plate collector clubs. Lots of great resources. A complete North American and World Archive of license plate photos and info.
Europlate - Another great club to belong to, particularly if your interest ranges to world plates. The club has published the book, Registration Plates of the World, which is the bible for world plate enthusiasts.
NPCC - Number Plate Collectors Club - Based in Australia, this club has a great bunch of members. Some nice photos and good information here.
AKS - Autokennzeichen Sammler - The German plate collectors' club has a new website and is now publishing a super full-color magazine full of great world plate photos.
Francoplaque - This French License Plate Collectors Club website has thousands of pictures of plates from every country in the world. One of the very best plate resources on the web.
Dutch Numberplate Archives - This site by Herman Hallo is being updated all the time and has a very well organized and excellent collection of photos and information.
Olav's License Plate Pictures - Olav has been busy taking photos of plates on cars in his native Norway. Hundreds of great photos from a surprising number of countries. One of my favorites! Great site!
Le Site Français des Plaques d'Immatriculation - An excellent resource for French and world plates. Lots of interesting info. The site is in French and if your French is limited Alta Vista Babel Fish can be a decent help in translating.
Jeroen Coninx from Belgium also has been taking plate photos and has them indexed by country and type. The site is updated periodically with more photos.
Indrek from Estonia is also doing a great job taking pictures of world plates he sees in his country and elsewhere.
Sander Elie in the Netherlands has a site called €uroplates which has a growing number of nice plate photos.
Jim Moini's License Plates - Jim has the nicest and most complete photo section of Mexico on the web plus lots of other good stuff. Check him out! Jim also has my favorite Links page on the net.
Motor Vehicle Registration System of Japan - From Joe ("Tiger") Sallmen comes the absolute best website if you are interested in Japanese plates. Has info on types, listings of the Japanese codes and many photos.
PL8S.COM - Drew Steitz has a really good plate site with lots of info on collecting, a world picture archive and hundreds of plates for sale. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already been there.
License Plates of the World - A very well laid out site by Michael Kustermann with numerous photos of world plates. An excellent reference that is updated often.
Raúl Conde has a a website on plates from his native Mexico. It's still under construction but there are a lot of great photos and info already there.
Peter Rottensteiner has a section on European country and city codes and has photos of many of these plates on his site. From the main page, click on 'autokennzeichen'.
Cars and Plates - Quite a number of worldwide pictures on this site. It's well worth checking out.
Plateshack.com - Mike Sells has some good photos and info, particularly if you are into 1976 plates or current stuff. Definately worth a surf! The Y2K+4 page is always being updated with new photos submitted by collectors.
Online Museum of Argentina License Plates - A very classy site by Daniel Rubinger which is being frequently updated. Lots of pictures of those interesting and varied Argentine plates.
World License Plates in Photos - a relative newcomer, this site is a blog that draws on photos of world plates on vehicles posted on Flickr.com. It's a super way to see some of the newer (and older) stuff in use. It's growing by the day and a great resource.
Russian License Plates - A nice overview with photos of the current plate systems being used in Russia.
History of Soviet Union Plates - This site is partly available in English with the rest in Russian. There is a tremendous amount of information on old Soviet plates as well as many photos of early plates on vehicles. The Babel Fish translator helped me to translate the Russian well enough to get the gist of what was being said.
Plateworld.de - My friend, Janko Kästner of Germany has photos of his large worldwide collection, as well as want & trade lists online.
Placamundi - 5 collectors in Barcelona, Spain have gone together on this very nicely done website. Each has their own interesting specialties. Some very nice plates on display here.
Andy Lachs of Austria has a terrific worldwide plate collection online. Lots of good stuff to see here.
Plate-Planet - Collector Hans Stedehouder from the Netherlands has one of the nicest world collections all photographed and displayed in his website.
Rick de Neuve is a collector from Belgium with an impressive worldwide collection. Photos of his plate, want and tradelists are also included.
Jean-Daniel Muller - my friend in Switzerland has a nice-looking website which displays his growing world plate collection.
Targheauto.com is the website of my friend, Alessandro de Zuani from Italy. He has a nice assortment of plates for sale/trade with photos, his wantlist and a nice bio.
Adam Veszner is a collector in Hungary who is building a very nice looking website to display his worldwide collection. The pages are in Hungarian but there is a link to English translation pages.
Ausplates - Dion Rinaldi of Darwin, NT Australia also has a wonderful site loaded with photos of Aussie & world plates.
Torsten Schumann of Germany has a nice site called '252 Plates' to showcase his growing world collection.
The Plate Depot by Mark O'Neil is an excellent place to shop for North American and world plates.
Frampers - English collector Steve Frampton is a plate maker for a living. He also has plates for sale to collectors as well. He's a great guy to deal with.

Personalized Plates Queensland - Queensland has one of the most impressive array of optional plates on offer. Their site allows you to design and order your own.
R.T.'s Blank Plates - Really nice blank graphics of many U.S. & Canadian types. Very good for making "vanity" plate graphics for websites.
The Universal Currency Converter - Handy site for converting from any world currency to any other currency.
Police Car Web Site - Has an unbelievable number of police car photos from all over the world.
Car Domain - A website where people can post photos of their cars, quite a few international pictures and if you have some time to kill, you may find some great photos of world plates on vehicles.
Highway Route Markers - Has a lot of interesting graphics and information if you like road signs.
