I use to build and fly 1/5th scale RC planes (a 4 stroke replica of the French TR260 stunt
plane with smoker system being my favorite), but I wasn't much of a pilot when it came to
landings.
My hobby of choice is N-Scale trains. I have over 336 pieces of rolling stock and am
currently building a modern container port. With a love for Santa Fe and Southern
Pacific, I model from the 1970s to today. Everything I've learned has been from
Lowell Smith and the gang at The Hobby Smith.
For my layout design I tried many packages, but I'm hooked on the best program in the
world, 3rdPlanIt by Randy of El Dorado Software. Check out Randy's web site
and community at www.TrackPlanning.com.
Inspirations? The Port of Los Angeles by
Robert Smaus in Model Railroader's 6 HO Railroads You Can Build (Everything is better in
'N' scale--does the plan below look familiar Robert? Thanks!). Check out the Kingsbury Branch, which appeared in
both the January 1997 and May 1998 editions of Model Railroader magazine. The sweeping S curve on Jack Parker's Northern Pacific
(thanks to James Herzman for the great photos and the links--his site can be found at the CyberWorld of Trains). Last, but not least, the The Oregon Trunk at
Lowell's Hobby Smith.
