Training and Goals

First of all I want to thank all who participated in the Spring Region 7 Tournament.  I am very proud of everyone!  I am really happier that students attend and do their best at Regional Events than whether they win.  You represented our school and the art well!

As for training (parents please help me with this) I want everyone to know that I am supporting you and your goals.  DO NOT FEEL OBLIGATED to participate in events anymore than is comfortable for you and the same goes for testing.  Kids, stick with training even if you feel a lull in the action.  The benefits of training sometimes come in spurts and sometimes it seems as though they are coming slow or not at all.  Stick with it.

IF you want to test, you need to meet the requirements.  Part of those requirements at a higher level (Red belt and above) requires participation in Regional Events.  IF you just enjoy being in class, that is fine also.  Please understand that I run class with progression and promotion as the objective.  Each individual has a different level of motivation and set of training goals, thus some progress faster than others.  The reason for this article is to hopefully clear up any miscommunication on what I expect from students.  If you think about it, I really only expect you to meet your expectations.  I think the short of it is; everyone be as active as you can.  Dan members should be the most active and lead by example.  I believe that as you spend more time in Soo Bahk Do, it is natural you won’t want to miss out on training opportunities.  Please talk to me if you have any questions about this.
