DENVER – January 4, 2002 - SCM Labs, Inc., a Denver-based software configuration management (SCM) solution provider, today announced availability of Quartet 2.0(tm). The new release of the software application offers distributed architecture in addition to end-to-end SCM functionality.

SCM is the process by which software development organizations store, organize, access and update software assets in the development lifecycle.

Quartet is a Java-based tool that was created by SCM Labs in response to what they perceived as a need for a less complicated, yet still fully-functional, SCM solution tool. It provides version control, build control, change control and dependency control in an application that the company designed to be faster to install, implement and make productive in software development environments.

The most outstanding new feature of Quartet 2.0 is that it can be implemented in a distributed architecture. “Our customers want distributed architecture because it significantly improves scalability,” says Scott Lehman, SCM Labs CEO and founder. “It accomplishes this by minimizing network overhead. We’re excited that we are now able to offer that to our clients.”

In addition, a unique feature of Quartet 2.0 is that it comes bundled with the JBoss J2EE application server at no extra cost. SCM Labs made the decision to include the JBoss open source product as a convenience to their clients, due to the high cost of commercial application servers. As open source code, JBoss is free to download and use.
