Here are some pictures of my DIY record lathe and stereo cutter head.
The lathe slide is a ball bearing drawer slide from Home Depot. The lead screw is 5/16" threaded rod stock. The half nut is connecting nut sliced in half. Tuntable is a 50's Presto T18. The lead screw is drivin by a small DC motor which allows the pitch to be varied using a DC power supply.
The cutter is two Digikey P/N 102-1306-ND. These have inverted aluminum cones and can handle 5W. I formed a driving cone out of copper sheet and glued it to the speaker surround. I then soldered a coupling wire to the peak. The torque tube is a simple 6-32 threaded brass rod. The cutter stylus is a lapped 1/16" HHS drill blank.
