Policies Manual

This policies manual contains the routine child care practices of All Hours Child Care. These policies are subject to change at any time, and do not replace, substitute, modify, or are any part of a contract for care. In general, these policies reflect the philosophy of All Hours Child Care and contain house rules. When changes are made, you will be notified with an update.

Hours of Operation:

All Hours Child Care will be in operation 24 hours, 7 days a week. We will not close in most cases for inclement weather unless there is a power outage or road closure. Should we have to close during an emergency, you will be contacted by phone. If you are unable to contact us during a phone outage in our area, or we are away or have to evacuate, please remember we have two digital cellular phones, and the numbers are: (listed in our policy manual upon enrollment)

Enrollment Procedure:

All children are enrolled on the basis of a personal interview between the parent, child, and provider. The interview allows the parent to evaluate the home and allows the child to get to know me and the surroundings. A two week trial period will begin the enrollment. This allows the parent and provider the opportunity to "fine tune" any concerns and address any questions that they may have with each other.

The following forms must be completed and on file prior to a child's enrollment in the daycare home:

1. Signed and dated contract.
2. Completed and signed Health Assessment (by Parent and the child =s physician). With lead screening addendum.
3. Signed flap from information pamphlet.
4. Current Immunization Record.
5. Informational paper titled About Your Child

Daily Goals:

Identify individual needs and strive to fill them. Create a comfortable, warm environment in which all who enter are accepted and loved, unconditionally. Acknowledge positive behavior and accomplishments of any degree. Nurture curiosity, creativity and independent thinking. Model positive social skills.

Fees:

Tuition is due in advance. Payment is due on the Fridays for care the following week. Vacation or holiday pay is due in advance. There will be no deductions for absences or holidays. If tuition is not paid on the above basis and no prior arrangements are made your child will not be accepted into care. Payment can be made by cash or check. Please keep in mind, I count on my paycheck just like you do. For payment not made on time, a $5 per day late fee will accrue, beginning on Saturday

Children's Welfare Policy:

All possible care is taken to provide a safe and healthy environment. However, accidents can occur in any setting. I have taken the utmost care in licensing my home and strictly following the regulations for a safe and secure place to learn and play. My husband and myself are certified in Community CPR and First Aid. In case of an accident or illness, my plan of action is to: tend to child, then notify parent. In case of emergency I will: tend to child, call 911, and notify parent. Your child will be taken to Franklin Square Hospital if that becomes necessary, or wherever the health authorities deem most appropriate. S/he will be taken by ambulance, unaccompanied, in an extreme emergency, as I will not be able to leave the other children. I will meet you and your child at the hospital as soon as I can get back up care for the other children. If there is a need for urgent care, that is one that cannot wait for you to come pick child up but is not immediately life threatening (such as bad cut needing stitches or broken bone) and child can be safely moved (i.e. no apparent neck or back injury, not unconscious), then all children will ride in my van to Franklin Square Hospital. I will contact you before transporting the child if at all possible

If your child gets sick, I will separate your child from the others into a quiet, comfortable area. I will contact you at the number(s) listed on the emergency form. You are expected to pick up your child from care within one hour of being notified that your child is ill. If you are unable to be reached, I will call the emergency number(s) supplied on your information form. All incidents and accidents will be documented on an accident report for your signature. You or your family's insurance is/are responsible for the cost of medical help or treatment due to accidents or illness while in child care.

Any person picking up your child in an impaired condition (in my estimation inebriated or on drugs) will be encouraged to allow me to find alternate transportation. I cannot legally withhold a child from a legal guardian but if I feel a child is in jeopardy I will not hesitate to contact the police.

Note that your child will only be released to persons other than the parent or legal guardian if their name appears on your signed emergency form. They may be required to show proof of identification. In case of an emergency, a phone call to notify me who will be picking up the child instead of the parent/guardian, will suffice. Parent/guardian may also be asked to show proof of identification if they have never met Provider or substitute. Please be patient with the practice, as it is in the best interest of your child

Discipline Policy:

All Hours Child Care uses positive techniques of guidance to help children learn self-control. Redirection, logical or natural consequences, and anticipation of potential problems are used to encourage appropriate behaviors.

Under no circumstance will any child in my care ever be subjected to physical force or any other form of corporal punishment to include but not limited to spanking, restricted movement by binding or tying, mental or emotional cruelty as a means of discipline, with-holding of food, rest or toilet use, or confined in an area such as a closet or locked room. If a child is wildly out of control, moderate and compassionate restraint may be used to prevent a child from harming himself or herself, to prevent the child from harming other persons or property, and to aid a child in gaining control of him/her self.

When behavior is not appropriate, it will usually be handled as follows:

Infants and small children (0-2):
a.) Distracting the child's attention from sources of conflict, danger, or frustration.
b.) Substituting a toy or diverting the child's attention to another interest.
c.) Often a small child may just need attention (i.e. holding, rocking, playing).

Toddlers and Preschool Children (2-4):
a.) Listen to the problem and offer a compromise or solution.
b.) Intervene when necessary.
c.) Change of pace; distract the child's attention.
d.) Time-out, when needed, 1 minute for each year of age.

School Age Children (5 and up):

Explain what is expected;
a.) review the rules and acceptable behavior.
b.) Time-out
c.)Removal of privileges (i.e. No playing air hockey if the air hockey table was damaged.)
d.)Removal from source on conflict

Property:

If a toy or property is broken or damaged by accident, then Provider does not charge or expect the parents to pay for the item. However, if the property was damaged due to repeated abuse and/or the action of a willful child, then parent may be responsible for replacing or repairing the item. This will be decided upon a case by case basis.
