SouthWestern Roster

 

            Diesel Locomotives,      Steam Locomotives,       Other

Every once in a while the SouthWestern runs short of motive power and "borrows" a GP18 from the Grand Trunk Western. This unit first entered home territory on August 18 of 2006. Seems the GTW never asked for it back.

Alco S-2 #'s 45 and 48 perform yard duty and local switching runs. Purchased (used) and painted in February of 1986. Although they make a lot of noise these units have been very dependable.

GP 7 Road Switcher #3319
An EMD GP7 is a 4-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electo-Motive Divison between October 1949 and May 1954. Power was provided by an EMD 567B 16-cylinder engine which generated 1500 horsepower.
GP 40 Road Engine #2212
Similar to a GP7, GP40s were built 20 years later and twice the horsepower.
DL-701 #'s 3345 and 3348
Built around Alco's 251 diesel, this model delivers 1800 hp.
VO1000 #36
Baldwin first built VO1000's in 1939 totaling over 700 units.
Alco RS-2's 1101.1102, and 1108 help with the local freight runs between River's Bend, New Holland, and St. John's Mine. The paint shop order said, paint number's 1101, 1102, and 1103, There was a smudge on the 3. That's how 1103 became 1108.
H12 44TS #'s 30 & 34  Produced in 1956 by Fairbanks Morse, you will find them doing yard duty.
   

Steam Locomotives

Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 Big Boy no longer feels the heat of a hot fire. Failing it's boiler test, this largest of locomotives hopes to again hit the rails if management agrees to spend money on a rebuild. No one is holding their breath.
A metal kit produced by GHQ. Models the Hiawatha under Milwaukee Road colors. The mechanism is a ConCor J3 Hudson.
This locomotive is used for special excursions only.
SW 310 is a Kato Mikado 2-8-2 Heavy as built when new. Other than a few minor upgrades during normal maintenance work this locomotive is original.
SW 321 is a Kato Mikado 2-8-2 converted to a Southern type MS-4 with Worthington Feed Water heater. Most details came from GHQ & Gold Medal Models. If interested click here for a list of details applied in super detailing this model.

Consolidation 211 is one of three (210,211,277) consolidations currently on the roster.
They are assigned to reefer and stock car drags.

Other

#24 is a gas electric Pullman  "doodlebug" The SouthWestern uses this power to shuttle passengers and machinery parts between River's Bend and New Holland.
Caboose SW 43 is one of ten similar "shacks". 34 ft wood sheathed, five have straight cupolas and five have slant side cupolas. The roster is numbered 40 through 49. # 43 is typical.
