Code of Conduct Policy
Student discipline refers to the rules and regulations governing the conduct and behavior of the students. The rules are designed for the following reasons:
It is important that the home and school work together to maintain appropriate behavior. Parents will be notified of major infractions immediately. Minor infractions will be handled at the school, but the parents will be notified if these minor infractions are repeated.
SCHOOL RULES
These apply to all students at all times –in classroom, in the common areas of the school such as the cafeteria, the playground, the gymnasium, the hallways, the boys’ and girls’ rooms, on the way to and from school, on the school bus, on field trips, etc.
All students are expected to conduct themselves in a
manner that demonstrates a sense of self-respect, as well as, respect for the
faculty and staff of the
Students may not:
1. Cause or threaten to cause physical harm to another person.
2. Tease, make fun of, and/or knowingly exclude or isolate other students.
3. Use force or threat of force to take property away from another person.
4. Steal or cause damage to school, bus, or private property.
5. Bring to school, have in their possession, or use any dangerous weapon such as a gun, knife, razor, or any other weapon, which is illegal under state law.
6. Bring to school any item, which may be considered dangerous, such as firecrackers, matches, lighters, etc.
7. Use, bring to school, sell or have in their possession any drugs, alcohol or smoking materials.
8. Smoke in school or on school grounds.
9. Act in such a way as to disrupt school or classroom activities. This could include not following classroom and/or school wide rules, disrupting a fellow student/ students’ education, making noise, blocking entrances or exits, using obscene language (swearing) or gestures, racial slurs, etc.
10. Be in an area that is off-limits to students and/or refuse to leave an area when requested to do so by a teacher or other staff member, including lunch monitors.
11. Leave the school or school property without permission.
12. Refuse to identify him or herself when asked to do so by a teacher or other staff member; refuse to follow directions or instructions from a staff member; refuse to follow the teacher’s classroom rules.
13. Run in the school building except when required to do so in the gym or during a physical education class.
14. Copy another student’s work, either homework or schoolwork, without permission from the teacher. Plagiarize published text or information obtained from the internet.
15. Throw any object; either in school, on school grounds or on the way to/from school that could cause injury to another person or damage property. Throwing a ball at recess or during a physical education class would not be a problem unless it was done intentionally to cause harm to another person.
16. Chew gum in school.
17. Use a skateboard, heelies, or electronic devices (not required for educational purposes) on school property.
18. Ride a bike to and from school without a helmet.
CONSEQUENCES WHEN RULES ARE NOT FOLLOWED
LUNCHROOM
Students are expected to follow basic rules of good manners while eating in the cafeteria, and are expected to follow the directions of lunch monitors. The following rules apply:
1. Students are expected to talk in low tones while eating.
2. Once seated, students should remain seated unless they have permission from the lunch monitors to leave their seats.
3. Students are expected to be respectful of the other students sitting at their table during lunch by not refusing to let another child sit at the table or disrupting the student(s)’ lunch.
4. Throwing food and/or popping a bag are not allowed
5. When asked to by the lunch monitors all students are expected to help clean up the area where they are eating. Napkins, straws, food, etc. which may have been dropped on the table or floor, should be picked up before leaving the table area. A custodian will be available for cleaning large spills.
6. Students are expected to form an orderly, quiet line when asked to do so and to exit the lunchroom and reenter the school building after recess in the same manner.
CONSEQUENCES WHEN RULES ARE NOT FOLLOWED
1. A five-minute time-out will be assigned for:

Not
following the rules of a game
·
Teasing
or name calling
·
Talking
back to lunch monitors
2. Loss of complete recess (the rest of that day
plus the next day)
·
Any
action which hurts another student (hit, kick, punch, push, etc.)
·
Using
inappropriate language
·
Repeated
behaviors from # 1
3. A student will be sent to the office, parents
will be contacted, and additional consequences will be assigned for:

Fighting
·
Weapons
·
Drugs
·
Repeated
behaviors from # 1 & 2

BUS POLICY
TO PARENTS AND
PUPILS:
The following are rules set forth by the Woburn Public Schools concerning the behavior of all students while being transported to and from school. A Principal may remove from the bus any student who fails to comply with the following rules and regulations governing behavior on school buses:
Please be aware that riding on a school bus is a privilege and failure to adhere to the above regulations will result in the student's loss of transportation to and from school.
It should be noted by parents and guardians that the State Law requiring children between the ages of seven and sixteen to attend school regularly unless excused by illness, will still be enforced even though the privilege of riding on the school bus has been forfeited.
PUPILS SHOULD KEEP THE ABOVE REGULATIONS AT HOME FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
Parents/Guardians of students who ride the school buses are requested to detach and sign the form below and have the student return it to his/her homeroom teacher.

PROCEDURE FOR BUS PROBLEMS
Bus misconduct should be reported to the Principal. The Principal will determine if the offense is of a minor or major nature. A major offense would be any behavior by a student which creates a safety hazard either on the bus or at the bus stop.
