My Joy and the Xbox®

I have very mixed feelings about Morrowind on Xbox.
The first time I played Morrowind it was through the Xbox console and I cannot tell a lie I got at least 200 hours of game play out of it. Loved almost every minute of it…
Then one day I noticed that some of my stats were in red and I didn’t know how to fix it!
This made me take my first trip on the Internet looking for Morrowind information.
Wowsers! I was amazed! Bullhonkie’s most excellent FAQ was my savior and his forum is the first one I ever participated in. What does this have to do with the X-Box you ask? Well, of course I ran across all the mod sites! After much drooling and debating I asked for Morrowind and Tribunal on PC for Christmas of 2002. (I also asked for an additional 512 megs of RAM and a GeForce 4© video card for my birthday which is January 7th) Had to be done because Morrowind was going nowhere on my PC without those upgrades…

So, did mods and an expansion make me switch to the PC version of Morrowind?
No, I think that could be attributed to the “dirty disk message”… My frustration was boundless… I saved every 7 minutes in multiple slots, I rested for 14 days at time often before I made those saves, and I’ll be damned if I would even try to walk out of Ebonheart (or anywhere in the Arcadian Isles region for that matter) Did these drastic measures help? Actually- yes, the resting kept my block size down and the constant saves kept me from being hosed by a random shutdown just because the poor console was tired! However, this was not really how I wanted to experience my game play and Xbox live® was right around the corner- so, to maintain marital bliss in our home (which was already being sorely tested by the Morrowind/Halo competition) we invested in the PC version.

There was a thread in the general forum not long ago about whether you would choose to purchase Morrowind on Xbox again and my answer was yes. Shocked? You shouldn’t be- Morrowind is a fabulous game- glitches and all! I would say on average for every five minutes of frustration I got at least two hours of complete entertainment! Plus my five year old son is fascinated by Morrowind (although hindered by not being able to read much) and after I pumped up his chosen Argonian named Xander (using the soultrap finesse)- I let him loose to wreak havoc in Ghostgate. He is having a ball running around with his “bended sword” (daedric crescent) and pounding on everything that moves. The Xbox allows him to do this as I don’t think he will be able to master the PC controls for some time. So, my $49.99 purchase of Morrowind for the Xbox was worth every cent as far as I am concerned.
