Print and Book Awareness
![]()
Print awareness involves understanding that reading and writing represent our words. Once children understand that print is where the meaning is, they start to notice print. This attention is help children start to make sense of these strange shapes, see Letter Knowledge. Understand the concepts of left to right, the space between words, directionality and punctuation are many of the concepts that adults have forgotten and children need to learn.
Adults help children learn these concepts with intentional conversations as children notice the ideas, or are ready to grasps the ideas.
