Rhyming

Rhyming is to be similar in sound, esp. with respect to the last syllable.  Preschool children develop experience with rhyme through chants, songs, finger plays, nursery rhymes and other poems.  Many Preschool books have rhyming text.

Rhyming helps children hear that words are made of sound parts.  This is a valuable concept as in reading letters are representing these sounds.

Children who can rhyme and manipulate the sounds in words are likely to be more successful in reading.
