To, Fro and Around Madness in the Wallowas 2006

This is the spectacular view from the top of the Old Spiral Highway looking down upon the towns of Lewiston, ID
and Clarkston, WA and the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers.

The Old Spiral Highway is a great ride and has little traffic as it has been bypassed by US 95 and only services a handful of old ranch homes.
Hell's Canyon (Snake River) bisects the horizon. If I didn't take this picture I may have wondered whether I just dreamed up this motorcycle playground.
You can click the above picture and pan across a huge panorama of the Spiral Highway. I simply couldn't fit it all in a regular photo even with a 28mm equiv. wide-angle lens. Use the "Back" button to return.

This is the section of US 95 that replaced the Old Spiral Highway. It's a nice ride too. I rode both of them once in each direction.

This is near the northern limits of WA Hwy 129 where it climbs south out of the Snake River Canyon. Nice turns with spectacular scenery.

This is a portion of Rattlesnake Grade on WA Hwy 129 where it drops down to the Grande Rhonde River Before turning into OR Hwy 3.

A scenic detour up the Grande Rhonde Rd.

This is the view of the Wallowas I awoke to at 6:10 am as I departed from Enterprise, WA on my circumnavigation of Hell's Canyon. A worthy ride with
enough variety of scenery and twisties to keep the interest level high all day.

One of my favorite roads around Hell's Canyon, Hwy 71 between Cambridge, ID and Oxbow, WA. More twists and turns than you can shake a stick at.

Terminal Gravity Brew pub brews a wonderful N.W. style IPA and provides a relaxing porch to enjoy it on. They opened just in time to provide a perfect finish to a perfect day. Wendy, Jeff and Eric Smith, ?? and Randy Mullen. I see some very contented looks.

The view from the Terminal Gravity porch.

The Wallowa River flows into Wallowa Lake. The Eagle Cap cabins are 10 minutes (on foot) upriver.

Another view from the Wallowa Lake Tramway. Interesting geology.

Looking towards Hell's Canyon from Mt. Howard.

OR Hwy 229 along the Siletz River. I like to explore new secondary roads, you never know what you might find.
This one is good riding with little traffic although the sight lines are somewhat constrained by the roadside vegetation

Sudbury Rd. near Thiel, WA. There is plenty of great riding on seldom used roads that barely show up on most maps.

Near the Pacific Crest Trail on US 20 just East of Santiam Junction in Oregon. I like to take time out to explore unique places along my travels.

North Fork of the Siuslaw River (Oregon) on County Rd. 5070.

Dan, Paul and Mark at the Hells Canyon Overlook on Nf-39 between Joseph, OR and Oxbow, OR.
