The home base of the original Refer Madness, the Chuckwagon Motel, was already
booked so we had new digs at the end of town, The Wonderland Resort. This is
Hwy 24 looking west toward the center of town.
Saturday morning I awoke to an eyeful of Italian color.
One motorcycle stood out from the rest as it shamelessly marked its territory.
I think that guy named Hobatz rides this one.
Hobatz asked the mad ones to gather outside the clubhouse after breakfast as
he had prepared a treasure hunt for the faithful.
The mad ones look over the clues and discuss strategies to win the most loot.
Fariborz takes a dim view of the paparazzi edging in on the winning strategy he
and Bob are trying to develop.
More mad ones.
I'm not very good at following instructions and I had neglected to bring my
treasure hunt clues so I wondered aimlessly around the area enjoying the perfect
weather. This is Old Dump Rd. 5 south of Torrey.
This is the historic Torrey schoolhouse. The new owners were in the process
of converting it to a bed and breakfast.
A rock formation on Notom Road (which connects to lower Burr Trail).
A rock formation on Hwy 24 inside Capitol Reef National Park.
Another view of Hwy 24 inside the Park.
The mad ones have gathered their machines together for a photo op before
Saturday night dinner.
I wonder what Captain Kirk and Goat Boy are scheming up...
I tried to snap an impromptu candid of the infamous headlight guy, Paul Geller,
but his eagle eye was quicker than my camera. I'll keep trying, one of these
years maybe I'll catch him with one of his signature grins. You know, the one
where he doesn't look like the cat that just swallowed the bird.

Hobatz is living large with a sexy blonde towel girl under each arm.
I would tell you what Hobatz just said to the towel girl on his left but this is
a family friendly website.
I really can't tell you what Goat Boy just said, you will have to use your
imagination. He does look quite proud, doesn't he?
Bob takes a break from his photo shoot to generously tip the towel girls.
Three tough guys with no beer.

Three happy guys, each with beer. Coincidence? I think not!
It looks like trouble might be brewing....
A good ride, a good beer and good friends. What more could a guy want?
Now where did those towel girls go?
Jo (azducgirl) and chaperone. Before the event Jo requested that she be provided
with a male "Towel Guy" for full enjoyment of the WCM experience but I am not
sure whether her wish was granted.
Time for dinner.
After dinner, Gary Eagan generously acted as MC (he's quite good at it too).
Greg Pichon received an award for being the only mad one to attend every annual
Ducati ST madness event on both East and West Coasts. Greg left us on May 23, 2008
but his memory will always be with us.
Paul shows off the snazzy new gloves he won. Hey, I finally captured the
signature Geller grin!
On Sunday, most of the mad ones headed home. Mark Turbo was one of those who
decided to soak up a bit more of the Torrey ambiance before heading home.
