Madness 2008 - Gold Beach, OR

Jot's Resort in Gold Beach, OR.

Those were great twisties! My clutch hand doesn't work anymore!

He did it!

Friday night was an informal dinner at the restaurant/bar by Jot's Resort.

Some people don't like to have their photo taken while eating.

Saturday dawned cool but beautiful. The Rogue River meets the Pacific Ocean infront of Jot's Resort.

Some of the bikes. It was the first year a Hypermotard participated.

Colin's handsome ST2.

When the graceful Rogue River Bridge was completed in 1931 it was considered the most advanced bridge in the U.S.A. for it's use of pre-stressed concrete arches. The technique was pioneered by French engineer Freyssinet and it's success in Oregon later led to widespread use of the pre-stressed steel/concrete technique throughout the U.S., in bridges and other structures. The innovative engineering technique reduced the cost of construction due to a reduction in the amount of concrete and steel necessary and this assisted designers in the creation of more graceful structures. This bridge has art deco styling cues and is 1,898 feet long.

A river bar on the Rogue River. I staked out this location to take a photo of the jet boats.

On Saturday some Mad Ones decided to let someone else do the driving and chartered trips up the Rogue River by jetboat.

Mike Wolf asked us to vote on various bike categories such as "best rat bike", "best highly modified bike with over 5000 miles", etc. Chris is hard at work taking his voting duties seriously.

Even after the deer impact, cracked fairings, missing fender, road rashed pannier, etc., my bike was still too sharp looking to win the "best rat bike" award.

Milling about during the judging.

Captain Kirk looking sharp in his black riding jacket.

The details do matter!

The volunteer poll worker, the photographer and the supervisor discuss the election.

A crisis situation develops when it is realized the beer cooler has run out of beer before the annual group photo has been taken.

More beer was located and the group photo was allowed to proceed.

I see at least one of the "Chico Phils" prefers his local Chico beer to the Oregon micros.

Mike Wolf acts as MC and tries to keep the unruly bunch in order and on schedule.

Mike announced a contest to see who has the most outrageous mobile workshop under their seat and the participants break out their tools. Sheesh, do these guys think modern Ducati are unreliable?

Mark Turbo shows off his mama bear, papa bear and little baby bear. A ratchet for every occasion!

One of the Chico Phils has embraced a local Oregon micro (or else that's all that was left).

Quentin is showing off his award winning form in the slow moto race.

Paul is weighing his desire for victory against the expense of Ducati body panels.

Dan is repeating the mantra "Use the force, Dan, use the force."

Fariborz is having a technical discussion about fuses.

Captain Kirk rode that 1098 all the way from McCall Idaho. Said it was very comfy and, I admit, it does look like a good fit. All it needs is some Multistrada panniers and a larger tank.

When's dinner?
