Kevin grew up on Earth's moon, in the urban industrial mining colony of G-11. He is the oldest of four boys, born within a span of five years. Kevin's parents divorced during his mother's fourth pregnancy, and he almost never saw his father growing up. His mother struggled at her factory job for many years, and in 3998, Kevin and his family finally had the opportunity to leave G-11 and move to the suburbs of Martian Nueva America. Kevin was fifteen at the time.

Although it took him a while to adjust to the lifestyle of the suburbs, he quickly made friends with his neighbor, Joey Lightspeed . While the two of them were playing basketball, both of them discovered without warning that they had super powers. Neither of their powers was as exciting as laser beams or super strength; in fact, Joey's power was the ability to grow goat-like horns. Combined with his facial hair, he took the nickname "The Goat" as his superhero name.

Intrigued by their new powers, but uncertain how to put them to the best use, The Goat and Joey, who had taken the superhero name Furnitron, attended a superhero convention. While at the convention, they teamed up with Amber and Arg, two other conventioneers, to make a superhero team. Almost as soon as they had done that, a team of Earth Raiders, led by Neil Quercus , attacked Martian Nueva America, giving the four new heroes the perfect test of their new powers and commitment to fight evil.
