A Hidden God

We are all drawn to seek Him
But where is He?
He is so huge that we can’t recognize Him;
no natural laws prove Him.
And He is so subtle that we miss Him.

Because of our perspective, He is not obvious.
He always leaves some doubt
that requires our faith to complete.

But if we do see Him, even for an instant
We don’t forget Him.
We’ll never be at rest until we find Him.

Some, not finding Him, have given up looking and consider Him irrelevant, although they know better inside. Maybe they have too much to have room for Him.
We have a span of 70 years or so
to become aware of His presence
which stretches to forever. He does ask us to listen and obey.

It really shouldn’t be so hard to find Him
We are surrounded by so great a love. But we are involved in things of this world
which are only a part of Him.

What will be the clue that makes us stop focusing on ourselves and look beyond?
Will it be His beauty or our suffering? Will it be someone else we know and trust
who reaches out in word, act or prayer? Or will it be our curiosity?
What will it take? Only He knows sometimes.

Even if we have decided that He is
there is still the matter of growing closer to Him.

But this is a dangerous thing to do
although coming closer to Him is rewarding
and we are drawn.

Serving others is a sure way to find Him if resentment doesn’t creep in.
But we are not with Him yet
and most of Him is still hidden from us
and it’s a constant search in this life.

We mustn’t get too comfortable, it seems. We must keep trying; Faith is never done on this Earth and the time we have may be shorter than we think.
There really is no time to waste on side trips, not when eternity hangs in the balance and the problems of this life will seem so infinitesimally small if we reach Him.

Any time we spend considering these things is well spent indeed.
