My Interests
Modesty Blaise
- I discovered Modesty Blaise quite accidentally. I
came across a book called 'I, Lucifer' and started reading. I really enjoyed
and decided to find out more about the character and her adventures.
Some of the places you can find out more about Modesty Blaise are:
Dilbert
- Like many others, I discovered Dilbert through the comics section of
newspapers. I have to admit that Scott Adams does a wonderful job of
describing the programmer's environment. It is sometimes scary that he can
create a cartoon that hits home so close. I always wonder if he's not
watching me on some kind of monitor. What is more amazing is that
management seems to miss the point.
Some of the places you can find out more about Dilbert are:
William Gibson
- I discovered William Gibson indirectly after seeing Blade Runner. I have
read all his cyberpunk books and find them all gripping. I have to admit
that I have not been able to put down a book of his yet unless I have
finished reading it. His universe has a certain attraction but I would not
want to live in it.
Some of the places you can find out more about William Gibson are:
Douglas Adams
- Douglas Adams is another author I discovered while watching the PBS
series "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I like the way he
combines science-fiction and a sense of humor. If you have not read the
trilogy (in four books) then you are missing on some of the best sci-fi
books. Needless to say, I have read all his books and laughed through all
of them. He passed away in May 2001.
Some of the places you can find out more about Douglas Adams are:
John LeCarré
- I discovered John Le Carre while watching the PBS series "Tinker,
Tailor, Soldier, Spy". I found his depiction of the espionage world
so much more accurate than James Bond ( I still like 007). I have read all
his books and have to admit that his books are so well written. He has
done an excellent job in developing his characters and making them so life
like. His heroes don't always win and that's the point.
